Sharp Pain in forearm

I've been noticing lately that evertime I do bicep exercises like a preacher curl, etc., I get an excruciating pain in my middle forearm, along my bone on the side closest to my body. I don't know what this is, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this type of problem before. What did you do?

Oh yeah I've had this. Still do.

About 3 years ago I was doing preacher curl, really pushing it, and I felt this shooting pain in my forearm right where you describe. I finished out my workout but it REALLY hurt. Being the dumbass that I can sometimes be, I didnt take any time off from the gym at all. This lead me to a having to ice my forearms every night for 3 weeks until I finally broke down and went to the doctor. He said the he thinks I tore my forearms and never gave them time to heal, thus making the injury much worse.

Now, fastforward to today. I had taken about 6 - 8 months off the gym a while back (I started back at the gym hard in august). I still can not do certain types of bicep curls at all, and when I do bicep curls I usually have a lot of pain in my forearms. I find it hurts most for me when I do things like flat bar (olympic bar) curls, spider curls, etc. I end up having to take some odd grips sometimes to do a full curl without forearm pain. Oddly enough my arms are probly my best developed muscle group, but it comes with a good deal of pain sometimes. I dont really know what I can do at this point besides just live with it. I find the pain isnt a problem unless I go really heavy with certain grips. For the most part I just focus on form and trying to do whatever I can to avoid aggrevating the nagging injury too much.

I'm interested to hear what other people think on this topic as I could use some advice myself.

Also of note. This doesnt seem to affect my grip strength since I dont get any pain when doing back exercises and I never use straps. It just seems to be in the curling motion.

Exactly. It doesn't affect my grip strength either, just when I do curl exercises. Damn, what happened to you sounds pretty serious. I haven't put ice on it yet, I was thinking about buying some Bengay or something. My pain has been getting worse, though, that's why I started the thread. Maybe I will have to go to the Doc.

I wouldnt wait. It sounds like exactly what happened to me. Worst thing you can do is what I did and just shrug it off and keep on curling through the pain. It will only lead to chronic pain. My doc has basically told me that it will probly always be there. Give it some time to heal. My pain now isnt terrible, but its significant. Dont let it get to this stage. Just rest it up, ice, bengay, a535, whatever. Just take care of it before it gets any worse.
