Best way to say hi to a girl at the gym??
There's a new girl in the office building thats going to office gym and I see her around cafeateria as well (I think she is a friend of one of my friends).
Anyway, She was at the gym this evening. I wanted to say hi and introduce myself, but I wasn't sure what was the proper ettiquete for the gym environment. Obviously I don't do it when she's running or doing weights, but how about when she's stretching? Water break? I was gonna do it when she was leaving but I was in the middle of a stretch and didn't want it too look like I was trying to hard. Or should I just get my friend to introduce me to her if I ever see them having lunch?

I have to say it, that's just adorable... (I thought only girls/women thought like that)
water breaks would be a good time, if you catch her eye, smile Hello is a great ice breaker...

That's what she said

maybe you could ask if she needs someone to spot her? or if she's doing a unique exercise or stretch, ask her what exactly that does and have her show you how to do it... something like that might be a good ice breaker if you're a little timid about just walking up out of the blue and saying hi.

I'm not normally one to give advice such as this, but the ever popular "Hi. I'm -insert name here-," line seems to work pretty well.

Blah, she wasn't at the gym today. Maybe next week.
I forgot to tell you all that she's always listening to music, so the Hi part may not work, but the smile should. I guess as long as she sees my lips move she'll figure out that I'm saying something to her and she'll take off her earphones. Have a good weekend!

Definitely don't do it when she is running or lifting. I hate it when people try to have conversations with me when they can clearly see I'm working out. Try the smile and "hi" thing. If she just gives you a brief smile and keeps going she probably doesn't want to be disturbed during her work outs. The cafeteria might be a better shot for breaking the ice.

first contact at the gym usually is eye contact. Then comes the raised eyebrows and slight smile.
Go from there, if she responds with a smile, then take the "water break/cooldown" approach, if you get no reponse....rinse and repeat. Its not gonna hurt for you to continually be nice and smile at her.
