Headaches...Migraines...Oh my!

So, yeah. I'm sure this has been done to death...

I have had headaches since the beginning of high school (just graduated this year). The last few years, though, they have progressed into migraines that occur a several times a day, everyday. It seems like I have a headache 24/7, unless I take Excedrin, which makes them go away for a couple hours (but makes me sick to the stomach).

I took some pills a couple years ago for my migraines, but they weren't working, and I couldn't stick to them (pills make me nauseous).

Should I see a doctor again for my problem? Does anyone know of ways I could make my headaches go away? Does anyone know of any non-pill medications I could take for migraines?

It might be something in your diet. Go to a doctor...I think they have specialists for things like that. Anyway...my mom had headaches for a long time. She tried lots of medications etc...but the thing that finally helped her was cutting out coffee, chocolate, and lots of other foods from her diet....so maybe you should ask your doctor about that. It seems like the easiest thing to try first.

Becareful with the Exceedrin -- that's got caffeine in it.

And taking aspirin every day can do all sorts of damage to your stomach and to your liver (I believe)

It might very well be a food allergy.

Is there any particular time when the headaches started becoming more frequent. (ie starting birth control pills, dental work done (this was the cause of a friend of mine)

Start keeping a nutrition log, of what you eat, and also note the severity of the headaches (the doctor might just ask you to start doing this) and go to the doctor.

Yes, Yes and Yes

With Exedrin you could be getting rebound headaches. I've found that Advil or Aleve tend to give me better pain relief without the rebound headaches. Also you mentioned that you get them several times a day. Do they come on suddenly? If so and if you have any vision disturbances you could be getting cluster headaches.

Birth control used to give me headaches until I started one with a new estrogen dose.

Also was having headaches constantly when I was anemic.

There's so many possible reasons for headaches that it's best you see your Dr. Find out if there's anything with your blood pressure or any birth control pills that could be affecting you. Is it stress in your life. Try doing some meditation. Even not the traditional time, give yourself a certain amount of time each day to get away from everyone, take care of yourself and relax. You may find that that time helps very well.

What do you drink each day? It could be as simple as not having enough water or too much sugary drink.

I get allergy headaches, stress/ tension headaches, caffeine withdrawl headaches, migranes with my period. I went to the doctor who decided that it was all due to allergies and she prescribed Clarinex. Didn't work. Also prescribed Migrazone. That helps if I take it early enough. Once I graduated high school, the mysterious headaches stopped. They started again when I went back to school. Its usually a combination of stress and eye strain for me.

Since I started orthotricyclin, I haven't had nearly as many headaches anywhere near the previous severity. At least there aren't anymore menstrual migranes for me.

Go to the doctor and see what they think.

By all means see a Dr. Even a nuerologist. My wife had the problem. They tried different medication (including Imatrex), cutting a bunch of key food from her diet that produced three chemicals that impacted serotonin, which is what causes the headaches and finally cut her birth contro pills. That was the trick.

It's different for everyone so the Dr. route is best.

Try increasing your sodium intake and taking a magnesium suppliment. If you try this, make sure you get magnesium oxide, NOT magnesium sulfate, which will not be absorbed into your bloodstream and draws water into the intestines through osmosis (translation: it's a really effective laxative.) I'm not sure if magnesium salicylate would work for migraines, so stay away from that, too.
