recurrent UTI

I have gotten 8 UTIs in the past year and it's getting really old. I'm doing all the things the doctors say to do but maybe you guys have some more things to add to the list. Here are the things I already do to try to prevent them:

Wash daily with antiseptic soap.
Use loose-fitting cotton pants and panties.
Shower instead of taking baths.
Drank cranberry juice and take cranberry tablets.
Wash before sex.
Urinate and wash after sex.
Drink about 1.5 liters of water (liquid) a day.
Take regular potty breaks.
Wipe front-to-back.

But the second I miss a beat, if I miss ONE potty break or wear ONE pair of snug pants, I'm instantly sick! And once I got sick even though I had been doing everything right! Why am I so vulnerable to this??

Just going out on a limb that it might be diet or toxic buildups in your system. Find a good isotonic supplement, preferabbly liquid or a powder that gets mixed into liquid. you are going to pay more, but well worth your health

That's a good thought, I was speculating that something must be wrong with my internal chemistry. Might you recommend a brand?

Have you gotten tested for diabetes? I've heard that people with hypoglycemia or diabetes tend to get UTI's more often because the imbalance of sugar in their system feeds the bacteria that causes UTI's.

Also the Dr's have given you lots of things to do but have they given you antibiotics to help?

It does seem to be a repeat thing - get them once and you can get them again easier. Sometimes it can be caused by other problems that you might be unaware of.

Yes, they used to treat them with sulfa drugs but now I am on Cipro. Sulfa makes me naseous but I love Cipro, I can tell it's like taking a bath in Listerine :P

I will check on the sugar thing. My dad is diabetic and my sister is hypoglycemic so I think I have the odds stacked against me when it comes to blood sugar :S

I just wish there was some other way to test blood sugar than poking my fingers! ouch!

UTI's

Are you having sex? If so, have your sexual partner get on an anti-biotic regimen as well. UTI's can be sexually transmitted, but the thing is not everyone shows symptoms. I got a new girlfriend, and within about a month after we started having sex I got a urinary tract infection. I went to the doctor and both her and myself got tested for the usual STD's (chlamydia, etc...) The STD test's came up negative, but my doctor recommended that both I and my girlfriend take anti-biotics before the results were even in. The anti-biotics he prescribed me cleared up the infection in a matter of hours. My girlfriend's doctor didn't prescribe antibiotics since she had no symptoms and her since her STD test was negative. Fucking moron. Well, then a little over another month passed and I got yet another UTI. Again my doctor prescribed the same antibiotics and had me get an STD test again. My STD test was negative again and so was my girlfriend's. My doctor again prescribed anti-biotics (which again quickly cleared up the problem within a day.) My girlfriend went to her doctor at Keizar and again the dumbass didn't want to prescribe the 30 dollar antibiotics because she had no symptoms....so she argues with her for awhile and finally she prescribes antibiotics to my girlfriend. We refrianed from sex until our anti-biotic regiments were over....and its been almost 6 months now and I haven't gotten a UTI since.

One word: Cipro.

I had a pesky UTI that backed up into my kidney after a few weeks. Three 500mg CiproXR's CURED it.

Clean as a whistle!
