Ok so Im gonna go retail

So I want to start a eBay business and sell wholesale. I plan on going down to the my city hall and getting papers to start a business. I'm pretty sure I'll get a tax I.D. when I get my business up, and a name of course. So what am I missing to buy from wholesalers? Do I need anything else to get it going? Anyone else have any luck on eBay selling?

Thanks,
dedekid

Some will require a physical address and even a picture of your storefront.

if you arent doing significant sales you wouldnt be getting much of a price break buying from wholesalers. but like mentioned above most will require a phyical store front or a minimum sales dollars.

There used to be an informercial that (I think) Tom Bosley hosted about making millions selling crap that people don't need on Ebay - Tried googling it but can't find it now. It was some wholesaler that would do all the stuff for you, you just kept up the website and decided what to sell... Generally anything that seems to good to be true, generally isn't, and anything that seems that easy, generally isn't.

Ah -- found the company - SMC is what he hawks for...

Honestly. Ebay has forums, you might be better off asking some of your questions there, as there are people there doing already what you are trying to start doing, and maybe they'd give you some pointers.

You'll probably need a Tax ID number for the wholesalers. I don't recommend using your SSN although you could. Once the business has been registered with your State, get a EIN from the IRS.

You may want to consider a counseling session with the local Chamber of Commerce or SCORE. A Google search of "SCORE" and your city should do the trick. SCORE is a group of retired businesspeople that offer free consulting services for small business owners.

Also, go talk to an accountant. Before you screw up big time in recording keeping, etc., find out what you have to do to keep Uncle happy.
