South Beach Diet

This really works well. I've lost about 12 pounds in little over 2 weeks. It's a little difficult to stick to (no bread etc) but the results are great. This should knock my cholesterol and bp right down. I like this better than Atkins or even weight watchers. Its a healthy diet written by a cardiologist. Anybody else do well on this diet?

I don't think losing 12 pounds in 2 weeks is healthy. From what I've always read is that 2-3 pounds every week is ideal. With dramatic weight loss like that it will make it much harder to stick with and you'd probably be more susceptible to getting sick because you're losing so much energy and probably not getting enough nutrients.

Oh, and I imagine just like with Atkins, as soon as you go back to eating breads and such (which is most likely inevitable) you will gain a lot of the weight back.

Most of the weight you've lost is water weight, not fat. If you lost 12 pounds of fat or muscle in 2 weeks, you'd be feeling REALLY shitty because its totally unhealthy..

its like when I eat a bunch of carbs during the day, and then go play hockey..i'll "drop" like 4 pounds during the hockey game, but in reality im just losing water weight that my body retained from eating a lot of carbs. By cutting the carbs out, you're just cutting the water weight out.

actually, i believe both of you are wrong. I feel great. I work out every day. I drink at least 8-10 glasses of water. I feel deprived because i love bread and pasta but somethings gotta give.

i actually read about a study where they determined that the initial (usually rather drastic) drop in weight on atkins was not due to water loss. they measured body compositions at start and i think 2 weeks and found that it was fat loss, not water.

after about 2 days on atkins though you will find a drop in weight that usually comes back in a couple days of normal eating which i think is probably partially related to extra water retention and higher body glucose levels.

but yeah, long term weight gain will often come back because most people will go back to their old lifestyle and eating habits once they've reached their goal.

You should feel good. You have taken alot of the foods that you have allergies or minor allergies to out of your system. Utilize the next step to find out what foods have a bad effect on your system. Caffeine is one to watch.

I feel the best when in induction day 4 on.

While I do not support long term use of any diet that restricts food types, I do realize that short term may actually benefit long term health.

Personally, I lost 45+ pounds utilizing Atkins induction. I would go into induction for 2-3 weeks, then slowly transfer into a healthy diet. I would target fruits, veggies and whole grain breads. I highly recommend a logbook containing your goals, weight, measurements, and exercise.

Remember that low carb does not mean no carb!

Take your supplements. Drink loads of water. Exercise.

It is not an Atkins or South Beach problem if you eat like a pig and gain the weight back. It is an eating problem. The goal is to get your weight down and maintain it by eating right and exercising.

I hope your goal comes quickly!
