Bicep Curls

Is there any advantage to doing bicep curls seated as opposed to standing up?

seated is more isolated..

Seated keeps you from cheating as much since you can't arch your back to the same degree to help you bring up the weight, which you shouldn't be doing anyways. Just remember when doing them that you keep your upper arm perpendicular to the floor, don't move it up along with the weight since that's taking some of the load off the biceps.

Seated should prevent you from "cheating" little more, by not allowing you to use momentum to swing the weights. I would recommend doing seated preacher curls to help work the short head of the bicep, and seated alternating curls on an incline bench to work the long bicep head.

Nothing wrong with a little controlled cheating.

Definitely try sitting. You can also use a cable machine for this. I hate seeing these really big guys in the gym trying to swing up a weight that is too heavy for them, arching their back and grunting the whole time. It does work some, but not as much as if the exercise was isolated.

Nothing you can do with cheating that you couldn't do better with appropriate weight and a spotter.

Controlled cheating all the way, but only after you cannot do any more w/o cheating. Either is good, switch them up every once and a while.

Tell that to Arnold the inventor of the cheat rep.

I used to cheat barbell curl 240lbs, and with dumbells I'd usually use 80-80lb. Oh yeah I weighed 285lbs at the time and it wasn't fat thats what happens when you sit in a gym for 4 hours a day. Cheat reps are geat just make sure that you aren't using so much weight that you end up hurting yourself
