cats anyone?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, but it seems as good a place as any. So me and my gf have this cat for when we are together at school. However during times such as winter break, parts of summer, certain weekends when we both go home for a period of time, my mom is allergic and the cat cannot come with me. However when my gf takes the cat(Gucci), he seems to love to pee and poo whenever she is not home. (jealous? lonley? haha). Anyway does anyone know how to make this stop? We've tried to cover the bed with dog poop pads, he just moves it aside so he can shit on the bed haha. We were thinking maybe getting him another cat so he wont be lonley? Think this will do the trick? Keep in mind he only does this at her house however this coming year we won't be in our apartment as much since we are no longer on campus and so maybe another kitten will help with the lonliness if thats what it is? thanks

Im assuming that she does have a litter pan....does your g/f keep it cleaned out often enuff? I know my cat will NOT go in her pan if she's decided its been too long since it was cleaned out and will go either on the bed or the dirty clothes pile

Has the cat been fixed? That might help it some...

In most cases of cats I've seen that use everything but the litter box as the litter box it's for one of two reasons, the litter box isn't clean, or the cat wants attention (I'm sure there's some clinical term for it) but if the cat is left alone a lot, it will do w hatever it can to get attention.

Whenever my parents would go on a trip, when they'd come home, one of the cats would have always pooped on the living room carpet... they never ever did this while my parents were home, only when they went out of town... and the cats were left alone (with plenty of food and water) for a few days.

They had two cats - so I don't think it was a lonliness problem - they wanted human interaction

We had a cat that peed on the bed. We put up with it for a while until we got a new mattress set. I took him to the humane society.

The cat is definitely acting out - cats do NOT like changes in their routine or schedule. Are there other animals in the house? DON'T get a new kitten/cat - that will only complicate things right now. Cats need to be introduced to new animals very carefully - lots of hierarchy type stuff.

Your g/f should also REPLACE all of the bedclothes and flip the mattress. I'm not kidding. Even if the cat isn't unhappy anymore, they go where the smell is. And maybe she can't smell it, but the cat most certainly can.

If you HAVE to move the cat this much, your g/f should spend a few days getting it settled in, and comfortable - they get scared and depressed and pissed off when their lives are changed around, and often their humans are their family, so you are able to reassure them. Don’t bring the cat for just a weekend – only if you’re going to be at your parents’ for several weeks/months. Get someone to check on the cat for weekends, up to one-two weeks TOPS. It’s too much change too quickly for a kitty to handle. Also, how do the other people in her house treat the cat? If someone is being mean to it, that can have negative consequences too.

When you move, plan on several days - maybe a week - to get the cat settled in. Use the pet repellent spray to immediately set the boundaries as to where it can and cannot go, and BE CONSISTENT. That's the most important thing - cats are most comfortable when there's consistency - and they don't mess with the boundaries so much.

JustJess- yea well we are getting an apartment starting july 1st, so that will be the last move for at least a year or 2 so that should be good.

I had a cat that the bf brought home due to feeling sorry for it since it had been abandoned at his workplace. Mind you, she was litter trained without a problem and didn't bother the fish nor hamsters (thank you).

However.... regardless that I cleaned that litterbox everytime I walked by the laundry room to the bathroom, she would always go in my ... not nobody elses... clean clothes. Yes.. my clothes. Not my daughters. Not my bf's. Just mine and only when I left the house to do the shopping. I don't leave very often except to go outside with the kid or out to do errands.

The only reason she's outside now, is because she drove me crazy jumping in and out of the window a thousand times a hour wanting to go outside. So, I stuck her outside. That was the first cat that I ever came across that I hated.

Go figure... maybe she was acting out because I left her in the house and wouldn't let her out.

When we are back at school hes fine with all of mine and her things. O well we are going to be moving into our new aparment for school this weekend before i head off for taiwan so Gucci should be ok after he settles into his permanant home for the next few years i hope.

Yes, after getting settled in, he should be a LOT happier.
Suzz - I dunno. Cats get an idea in their heads, and sometimes there's no stopping them. Sorry!!!!

We had chicken tonight. Our cat came in begging for some, after we had finished the cat some left overs. All of a sudden I see her looking weirdly and putting her paw near her mouth, then trying both paws. I was a little worried. Eventually she spat out an almost spherical bone. I hear that cats can have trouble with the chicken bone shards. Our vet told us it's better for her teeth to feed her chicken occasionly though.
Our cat doesn't like having the medications againts flees and worms put on her back. When she smells the tube being opened she struggles and tries to run away. My auntie (she's a vet) told us to put her on a place where she usually isn't aloud and apply the medication there. So we covered the dinner table with a cloth and lifted her up there. She was rather bewildered. That's when we put the medication on her. Afterwards she was suspicious of us when she was around the table for a couple of days. I wonder if it'll work next time. As for your cat, maybe you could ask at the vet if they have any advice?

aKula - yeah, you'll want to check any meat you give your cat for bones every time. They can cause all KINDS of problems - up to and including death, seriously.
Surprise is often the best offense for an unwilling kitty - good idea, thanks!

Well... happy to say.. that I don't have this cat anymore

But I always found it odd that out everyone's things here, it was just mine. As someone mentioned, the cat must purely hate me. And I know why to. Cause I bathed her. She was at a mines when she was found! No coal dust in *my* apartment, thank you very much!

Get a littermaid. I have one and it scoops automatically. It works great.
