A can of Tuna and a apple a day!

I'm not fat. I'm 6'4'' and 210lbs. I used to be 300lbs. I lost the weight by doing the low carb, high protien, and low fat. My lowest was 170lbs. I bulked up at the gym to 210lbs.

Okay, heres the thing, I saw the movie "The Machinist." Great movie. Christain Bale looked like a skeleton. He was dangerously skinny. His diet was an apple and a can of tuna a day to prepare for the role. I'm going to try it just to push my mental and physical being. I'll stop at 170lbs.

Everyone thinks I'm nuts! What can happen to me? What can I expect? Is it that dangerous if I take a multivitamin a day and drink lots of water? Please comment.

You might want to consult a doctor. We have some on the board who can probably comment, but I'd say it's a bad idea, but I don't know personally what would happen to you.

In my opinion it's a little over the edge. What is the point in potentially damaging your body like that. I would think it would be bad on many internal organ, including your heart. Seems like a dr. discussion would be in order.

Why is that you want to do this? You yourself said that the guy looked like a skeleton and was dangerously skinny. Keep in mind he was doing this for quite a lot of money and that he most likely had a number of people who where there to care for him in the event of an emergency.

I don't see how that could be enough protein for your body to maintain the muscles that you currently have. Also if your not getting the right minerals you could cause some serious problems for the thyroid. If you don't get enough calories you could cause yourself low blood sugar trouble, even to the point of putting yourself into some sort of diabetic shock. Some of the possible things that could happen to your body could permanantly damage some of the important organs.

No matter what, if you decide to still do this then make sure some people who are around you a lot are aware of what is happening. If you have a siezure, pass out, or some other episode of unconsiousness it will be imperitive for the medical personel who are called in to know what has happened so that they can treat you accordingly.

This is my first day and I feel okay. I'm doing it just to see how far I can push myself.(Mentally and Physically)

I'll stop when I truly can't take it anymore.

I think you should do like 3 cans of tuna and 3 apples a day.

That is still a low diet, but more healthy.

Just be sure to take some kind of multivitamin.

I think your body will go into 'starving mode' and start eating your arms. So you will loose weight, but I dobut it will be fat.

Can't agree more. No good can come of this. I think Bale even went too far and he made good money for it.

True. He did go a little crazy. I'll stop at 175-180lbs.

I could just tell you this in person, but I'm much too lazy to bother with that.

Dude, it's a bad idea. I regret ever saying anything about Christian Bale's diet for the Machinist. At least go up to a second can of tuna and a second apple everyday.

I think ChrisJericho summed it up best...

"You'll lose weight and feel like crap. You might die."

Watch out for the mercury in Tuna. Each the regular stuff rather than the albacore tuna.

As woot said, there tends to be a lot of mercury in tuna. That's not very good for you in general. Secondly, you're more or less starving yourself. A can of tuna and an apple, even with a multivitamin is going to leave you pretty malnourished. Expect to get sick much easier, feel tired all the time, lose all the muscle mass you've gained at the gym as your body literally "eats" itself. You're asking for various electrolyte abnormalaties, which can mess with your muscles, brain, kidneys, and so on.

In short, my opinion is that it is a VERY bad idea.

Also, your metabolism is going to slow down so much that once you start eating regularly you'll probably pack on the fat.

I going to stop, even though the weight loss will be slower if I just eat healthy, its a bad idea.

Good. Anyway, 170 pounds is considered a decent weight for a six-footer. At six-foot-four, 190 is 'way lean. I knew a guy at that height and weight, moderately active but not excessively so in his 20s and 30s. He had no gut and no butt. None.

I once knew a guy who was 7 feet tal, 170 pounds. Dude was a horror show. Sunken chest, arms like white PVC waterpipe, ate almost nothing. Died at 41 of a heart attack.

If you want to push your physical and mental being, take up triathlons or rockclimbing or long-distance bicycling or marathons or something. But eat right.
