Poet Laureate for January

Please vote for the January Poet of excellence. It seems a shame to allow such skilled creativity to go unrecognized.

J.R.V.A.

Spent reflex cannot recall,
if and or what would be
A leaf can somewhat hide behind,
what we don't want to see
The obvious is hidden bout,
stuck up under our nose,
we look so far beyond our sight,
sometimes our minds slam close
Somehow if we would take the time.
to watch the clock tick by,
we'd see the beauty that sits still,
as crystal clear as sky

Moskie

Heredity

My mother hands me a picture,
brown and faded,
its subject a young boy,
no more than ten years old.
He is me.
The hair,
the eyes,
the expression.
“I don’t remember this picture.”
She turns the photo over:
Werner Lilling, my grandfather, 1922.
I slowly flip the picture back
to scan it again,
revealing the same reflection as before.

I begin to wonder how inescapable it is,
if at all.
Or perhaps it was,
but I’ve missed my chance,
and now I’m left waving my arms
on a tight-rope called destiny.

When I cough my mother’s cough,
I wonder whether I’ll share her fate.
I try to keep the phlegm down,
but I sense its persistence is too cunning.

I curse my father’s curses,
after acting out one of
his trademark blunders.
I close my eyes
and see myself mirroring
the fabled suicide attempt
I’ve heard tight-lipped stories about.

It frightens me,
how I appreciate everything they’ve done,
but still try to avoid
everything they’ve become.

I settle that either there’s nothing I can do,
Or I’m already doing it,
Since it’s already determined
whether my life is already determined, so
I clear my throat,
Clean up the mess I’ve made,
And go on with my day.

amonkie

sleepless dreams, tonight
no peace in darkness found
last coals have all gone cold
the clock is not my friend
as another day begins

Chimera

Who are You...to know me well
a mind beside my own
semblance of self bleeding into another
unlike I've ever known
Carbon paper...Xerox thought
I dont know how you do it
but somehow all my inner hopes
You give as if you knew it
Do you feel...the Love I hold
In heart, as well as soul
it seems as if we two, are one
and you are in control

Hard to believe these were the only poems written all month....Hint, Hint..nudge, nudge...wink , wink.....know what I mean....

didn't know there was a call-out....although I've been rather non-inner-reflective lately anyway
