On Display
I see her standing there, inside the little glass box that she's built for herself. She's designed it to keep everyone out... to protect herself... to feel safe. And so she sits, like a doll still in the box, shielded from the evil of the world, but isolated from the rest of the world. She appears content inside this box of hers. I tap on the glass every so often, which elicits a smile and a wave. Sometimes I shout "Hello", but she can't hear me. I look for a way inside the box, but it is sealed on all sides. And so I sit, and watch, and wait for her to step outside.
One day I look up, and I see someone standing next to her. "Impossible", I think to myself... the box is still sealed. I check the perimeter again, looking for the way inside. Nothing. I look up again, and I see more people gathering around her. I knock on the glass, but no one can hear me. I can't understand how they were able to get in... surely there must be a hole in the case somewhere. I search again, and still I find nothing. And so I sit, defeated, when it finally occurs to me that she's not the one that's sitting in a little glass box....
