tinkering with the Olds

I own a 2000 Olds Alero which I am thinking of tricking, body wise dosn't seem to be much of a problem.
What I am wondering about is where to start, motor, powertrain, or a combo of both.
What do you do to beef up the CV joints on these front wheel drive cars so you lessen the risk of major damage in this area?
Has anyone got any thoughts on this maybe problem!!!

Which engine is in this? If it's the Quad4, GM makes a supercharger kit for the motor...I don't know pricing on it, or what all is involved, but it's there. If it's the V6, Magnacharger has a kit for the 3400. Either way, the transmission is the weak point, although the 5-speed behind the 4-cylinder would take that power better, I think. The halfshafts should be OK, I wouldn't worry about those yet.

Thanks. DEI37, was told the trans may be the weak point but was worried about the whole powertrain.
The motor is the big 6, 3.4 I think it is.

Yeah, Magnacharger makes a s/c kit for that. I know it isn't cheap, but it is available, I think. Check out http://60v6.gmforums.com for further information. There are companies that sell high performance heads, and I think headers are becoming available. Good luck, and have fun.

go to www.partsforyourcar.com they sell some nice accesories/performance parts

Oh yeah another thing to do is put a cold air intake kit from a civic on it. My friend did that to his grand am se (with 3.4 v6) and now he gets more hp and 34mpg.

don't forget you can also do port work on the intake, and if you feel like the extra expense, the cylinder heads as well. I think there are aftermarket camshafts for those too, so you may wish to look in to one of those.

Sorry, there aren't any aftermarket cams for the 3400. Some companies MIGHT do a regrind, but that usually isn't worth it. Your best bet is head and intake work, look for headers, and set up a less restrictive exhaust and intake setup. Good luck. Check out the mentioned forum above. The guys there are good...trust me.

Checked out the forum you mentioned , 60v6, havn't had a chance to post yet.
There is a lot of info there thats for sure, Thanks DEI37

Also www.grandamgt.com is a good forum to talk about modding 3400 v6s
