Porsche 924S

Laura is water-cooled, Porsche-engined and drives like she's on rails. She's responsive, twitchy, growly and she look fantastic, everything a good girl should be. She's been my first sports-car, but now I need to sell her since I've moved to another country.

So now, I don't know where to go next to get a driving experience that is going to measure up. Any ideas, or views from owners, ex-owners, or similar?

Thats a nice car. The 924 was my first favorite sportscar. I would think its driving experience unique, as the 924 was the prototype for future front-engine 2+2 sportscars.

Today, there are many, many cars on the market with awesome driving characteristics and abilities that you will never be able to max out on the street. The trick is to find the one that suits your style. Why not look into the new Porsches, as they've only gotten better.

The new ones are pretty much on the costly side. Laura is an '86. I bought her 3 years ago for 3,500 GBP - A 911 or similar from the same period might cost up to 15,000 GBP, and newer models (Boxter etc) only start at around 25,000 - still second hand. Still, I guess the price-tag reflects to some extent the driving enjoyment (though perhaps also a fair amount of brand-based snobbery)

Here's an off the wall suggestion ...gee, I don't know why I thought of this ...how about a '93 to '98 Toyota Supra turbo model of course with the 6sp tranny, find a nice clean unmolested one for say $25000 U.S. maybe less, add under $1000 in mods and you're driving something with close to 400rwhp that can outhandle and outbrake most cars you'll come across street or track, and be as reliable as a Toyota.

PS: I have one and love it

I'd love to have a 944 Turbo, such fun cars to drive. The 968 is nice, but is so damn heavy.

Why not just kick it up a notch?
928! It /was/ intended to replace the 911.
(Is it wrong to have someone elses fantasies for them? )

Oooh 928! Yes, I hadn't thought of that - they are supposed to be very similar in many ways to the 924, just better - I read that they kept the transaxle at the rear to keep the 50/50 weight-ratio that the 924S has, which makes it such a good ride. Hmmm, you've got me thinking now. Thanks!
