Bose Electromagnetic Suspension System

I did a search and only saw a slight mention of this, so I thought I would add this on here.

Quote:
Bose Suspension System

Supplanting almost 100 years of traditional spring-and-shock-absorber suspension systems, this new system from Bose—a company best known for its stereo speakers—uses electromagnetic motors in place of traditional shocks. Mounted on each wheel, the motors use input from sensors throughout the vehicle to react to bumps and potholes instantaneously, exerting downward force to extend the wheel into potholes while keeping the car level and you comfy. As the wheel pops back up onto the road, the suspension recaptures nearly all the energy expended; it uses only one third the amount of power your AC does. And beyond smoothing out bumpy roads, the system improves handling, virtually eliminating body roll in tight turns and minimizing pitching motion during braking and acceleration.
Article here.

It goes a little more in depth in the actual magazine.

But when I saw this, I just thought to myself "That is some cool shit".

ya ive read about that. Supposed to be the answer to the suspension problems that can occur with hydro, and air suspensions. U dont have the blowing out of bags like in air ride, and u dont get the questionable ride quality and construction of many hydro systems. Probably will not start out for use in the aftermrket tho, seems like something a high end car company would use on a luxury car.

I looked it up a little more and here is the Bose site for their suspension system here

It has a lot more info than the popular science site.

And it may just be for ultra-luxury cars right now, but give it 15 or 20 years and it wills start coming standard on most cars for the increased safety and control.

I just wanna see it hit the aftermarket......the ability to absolutely slam a vehicle and still retain a decent ride quality, or jack it way up and still have control....drooooooool

When I first heard about it, my reaction was, "What the hell? Bose made a suspension system?" But the more I read about it, the cooler the thing sounds. And really, it seems pretty damn cool.
