New hard driving Metal (not thrash)

I'm looking for GOOD metal, in the vein of Pantera, Hatebreed, Machinehead, etc...not thrash metal. I prefer hard driving bass lines rather than speed guitar. Anyone know of anything new (and good)?

Have you heard In Flames? What about Napalm Death? Neither band is new but they both kick some ass.

The only metal I listen to is Godsmack. I don't know if that is what you are looking for but you should check them out.

If you want metal with metal singing (not screaming or growling), check out Dragonforce or Demons & Wizards. I've been digging both bands lately.

Good metal is really something that's specific to the listener. You might think what I call good metal is crap.

Having said that, I'll make my most recent metal acquisition as a recommendation - PROBOT. This is a Dave Grohl project and it's basically him fulfilling his childhood dream of playing with some of the biggest metal gods of the 80's. Guest vocalists include such classic metalheads as Lenny Kilmister (Motorhead), King Diamond (Mercyful Fate) and Max Cavalera (Sepultura).

I know some people have mixed feelings about Dave himself, but he generally goes back to what he does best on this one; mainly hardcore drumming and some vicious guitar riffs. He leaves the singing to the pros.

Definitely worth checking out, if you ask me.

I would second the PROBOT! Though you will get a bit of a mix of sounds because of the different vocalists.

Also I'd suggest Corrosion of Conformity, SOIL, Biohazard, Black Label Society, Down (Phil on vox), maybe Primer 55, E-Town Concrete.

That's all I can think of right now.

Hard driving basslines? Try Atheist, the album Piece of Time is probably their best (though all 3 are worth owning). Listen to the song "On They Slay" and you'll be hooked if that's what you're looking for. Be sure to not listen to the demo version.

Krisiun are brutal death metal, very heavy basslines but also a lot of speed guitar as you don't like, but they're worth a shot.
