I need music recommendations!
Hey everyone,
I've been listening to a lot of Thievery Corporation lately, and really like it when I'm hanging out, smoking, or studying. Basically I listen to it all the time. It's labeled as "acid jazz", and is a sort of laid-back techno lounge music. My question is: does anyone know of any bands/groups that have a similar sound or vibe?? I know this kind of music isn't mainstream, and I'm the only one I know that listens to it right now. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! |

I don't know them, but by visiting http://www.liveplasma.com/ , it appears that they are closest to Tosca, Groove Armada, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Zero 7, and Lemon Jelly.
I don't know any of them either.

there are a lot of bands that play lounge-y stuff
i recommend getting Bonobo's Live Sessions EP. it's amazing. if you like it you can get the rest of his discography. also try Air, Gare Du Nord, Dabrye - One/Three, Bent - The Everlasting Blink, Bitter:Sweet, Mellow - Perfect Colors, Royksopp - Melody AM, Yonderboi, Jaffa... i think Warp records has a lot of artists with a similar sound. Nightmares on Wax is the band of the label's owner i think. you might like the Lounge Deluxe and Bar Lounge compilations as well. i'm not sure if you will be able to find them very easily, though. |

You've hit on one of my favorite genres here!

Also: Goldfrapp, Baby Elephant, Craig Armstrong, Frou Frou, Nightmares on Wax, Fila Brazilia, De-Phazz. I strongly recommend you spend some time listening to <a href="http://www.somafm.com">Soma FM</a>'s Groove Salad streaming radio station. That's where I found most of these artists, and they continue to surprise me every time I listen in. |

there used to be a website, and i'll be damned if i can find it now - that didnt play music - but it was a great big ole charty thing... that you entered the name o fthe band - and it would give you all the other bands that were like it - or close enough... it was really helpful... if only i could remember the website..

I have been listening to a couple of lounge type (remix) CD's recently and have a few recommendations.
Upstairs At Larry's (Lawrence Welk Uncorked) Most of the remixes in this one sound like they belong in a David Lynch movie. I especially like "Blue Velvet (Smitty Remix)" and "Watch What Happens [Physics Plastique Extravaganza Remix]" What is Hip (Remix Project Vol I) These are remixes of oldies and not so much lounge music but they are mostly easy listening. I especially like "Tony Joe White - Rainy Night in Georgia [Boozoo Bajou's Georgia Dub]". |

this site has a few stations that sound like they might be up your alley. i like their indie station alot.........play it in the background at work, & when i hear something i like, it has a running list of the song/artist/album.
