Help Me Name This Song!!! (knowledge of French is a plus!)

STRIPTEASE. NOT SAFE FOR WORK. STRIPTEASE.

Now, with that out of the way, does anybody know the name of the song playing in the video and who sings it? If you know French (it sounds French), perhaps you could Google some lyrics from the song? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I speak fluent Russian and I assure you, it doesn't even sound close.

meanSpleen 09-01-2007 08:55 PM

okay, then it isn't russian! I take it back!

MexicanOnABike 09-01-2007 09:53 PM

spanish. go with that and see what others think.

pig 09-02-2007 06:43 AM

it's too fast for me logan, i'm out of practice. but it's definitely french. i'd put the artist as a moroccan / tunisian. i haven't spoken / listened to realtime french in a long time...pm martian and see if he can't follow it. i think he does french...

MexicanOnABike 09-02-2007 09:31 AM

dammit PIG! i'm french. i've spoken french my entire life. this is not french!! it's spanish or italian.

yes. after another listen, i can't make out a single word of french out of this. Look for SPANISH!!!!!

LoganSnake 09-02-2007 09:48 AM

Okay, does anyone here speak Spanish?

roachboy 09-02-2007 10:00 AM

i recognized a bunch of french words in what i could get through of the clip.
and the cadences were familiar.
my french is not up to verlain, but its possible that is what'd explain the difficulty in translating much of anything.

i admit that i couldnt do more than a few minutes of it, though, because its too early in the morning for such a thick wall of cheese.

pig 09-02-2007 10:13 AM

holy crap - how did i forget roach for french? foolish little pig i am.

mexican: no offense intended, but i definitely recognized some french in that. as i said, the voice sounds north african to me, so with the crazy french youth doing their ticy and whatnot, perhaps it's a variant of french from n. africa? i could easily be wrong; perhaps it's another language variant very similar to french, but it sounded a lot to me like the collaborative stuff i've heard from iam and ntm with artists from further south on the other side of the med.

roachboy 09-02-2007 10:17 AM

alot of french hip hop lyrics are built around reversing the first and last syllables of words (that's verlain)--sometimes i can figure it out, sometimes i cant--depends mostly on how long the string is--the more verlain in a string, the harder it gets for me (because you reach a point where you either know it or you dont and cant rely on context to decipher stuff).

but i am not sure about the clip. it sounded like a creolized french. verlain plus maybe elements from a north african dialect. hard to say. too much cheese.

LoganSnake 09-02-2007 10:36 AM

Can you decipher even a few lines? Who else here knows French besides Martian and you?

MexicanOnABike 09-02-2007 11:07 AM

ok, so it might be but it's so fucking far off from french that noone speaking normal french will be able to help you. I speak canadian french(ontario and quebec) and I watch france-french movies all the time with no problems of understanding. this is just too far off. sorry. what website did you get it from? it would be a good idea to ask them? but the writting seems to be russian. i dunno.

and to the ones who can find french words in it, tell me what you hear!!

actually, if you go to the chorus(where the beat picks up) 1:06. they repeat the line a few times. see what you can hear from this. i can't get a single french word from this.

roachboy 09-02-2007 11:11 AM

i think that a parisian would know better. verlain is street slang. someone who smokes or smoked has would know. or someone who is really into hip hop.

i know about a bunch of creole versions of french, but knowing about them and being able to translate them (much less function in them in 3-d) are very different.

or i could be wrong.

I've tried that. The only contact information they have is their manager's number in Chicago. I guess it would be stupid to call and ask what track is playing in the video. :splat:

I'm trying to get ahold of 2 friends online - being a holiday weekend and this being the first time I've noticed this. it is NOT Moroccan french - that much I can tell you - I speak enough of it to know - and it has an arabic twist to it (moroccan french). The one I'm betting on is Portuguese - making a bunch of you listening semi correct as it has its roots both in french and spanish. (I heard words from both in there, that what has me guessing Port.)

If its Port - I should be able to have the artist and song identified within 48 hours, just have to get a hold of my friend Monica and don't know what shes doing this weekend.

MexicanOnABike 09-02-2007 11:48 AM

portugese would make sense.

pig 09-02-2007 12:06 PM

i'm not sure what language this is, but i think i found it transcribed here:

same song?

LoganSnake 09-02-2007 12:09 PM

Yes, pig, same song. Can't wait to blast it in my car for everyone to hear.

Martian 09-02-2007 01:06 PM

I'm with MexicanonABike. I speak Quebecois French and this isn't even decipherable to me. It does sound vaguely romantic, but unless it's some weird pidgin I wouldn't call this French. Portuguese is a much stronger possibility, but unfortunately that's not a language I know, so I can't help you.

Midnight 09-02-2007 02:09 PM

Logan - im near chicago - PM me the number - I have no problem ringing them and finding out what the song is. lol

ratbastid 09-02-2007 02:15 PM

You can't deny the cadence, though, sounds French.

Although I've heard some Eastern European pop tunes (Czech, Croatian, etc) that really OUGHT to make sense to me in my once-fluent French, and are complete gibberish.

Infinite_Loser 09-02-2007 03:21 PM

I can tell you that's not Spanish.

roachboy 09-03-2007 09:37 AM

they remind me abit of hoba hoba spirit.
even if this is wrong, they're still kinda interesting.

the creole lyrics are kinda mad in a similar way--there's french, english, morroccan dialect, arabic and other stuff flying around.
the difference is that i can hear that the underlying language is morroccan arabic and i think the base language in the clip is french.

anyway, these folk are apparently the New Big Thing in morroccan pop.
