I have lyrics but cannot remember the song title or band...

Do any of you kind people have memories of some simplistic, raw, in your face british punk?

Got some song lyrics going round in my head

Walking down the road
looking at the ground
copper comes along and starts pushing me around
kicked him in the balls
and smashed his face
he told me i'd be done for GBH

The song is british, circa early 1980s but cannot put a band name and a song title to it.

Any ideas?
1st prize might be a trip on a near c acceleration experiment!!!

Have you tried Googling part of those lyrics? Always works for me.

Are you looking for a specific song title, perhaps, or would you prefer songs that are similar in meaning, genre, and era to what you requested?

I'd guess it's the first, but more ideas and choices might be what you're looking for instead.

My guess? It's the Sex Pistols.

'Zat you, twizta?

My best Google-fu has returned the result of I'm A Mess, by an obscure punk band called Stormtrooper who cut a demo in 75 and then broke up.

Here's a low-quality sample:

http://www.punk77.co.uk/audio/stormtrooper.mp3

The third verse (not featured in the above clip) allegedly conains lyrics that are similar but not identical to what you've suggested:

Three o'clock on Friday night a copper comes along
And after kicking me around I started to run
And the law was all around me so I just hit it out
Now they've thrown me in the nick where I can scream and loon about

Stormtrooper sounds somewhat familiar to me as a mid/late 70's punk band but I don't think they ever did much of anything like Martian wrote above. Its possible the song was picked up and recorded by somebody else later on, that wouldn't surprise me at all.

I'll put some thought into it but the lyrics aren't ringing a bell at all right now. Do you remember where you might have last heard it? (some record or tape you used to own, the radio, online? might help narrow it down a bit)

If it's a British punk band, look at this site:
UK82 British Punk Rock of the Eighties -/- UK82 punk rock 80s
Quote:
This site, created in 1998, provides photos, lyrics, discographies, and other information on the UK and Irish punk rock bands that existed from 1980-1984. This site popularized the term "UK82"

Thanks for the replies guys...

I appreciate the effort you guys have put in already.

I fear we are no closer the answer. As far as I can remember a friend of mine had this dodgy MP3 on his PC. The information on the track said it was by a band called GBH but I did some checking on my own and tracked down all their lyrics and is does not match anything on their back catalog so I have a rogue track with the wrong data.

Still its a thumping good tune, very raw with a heap of attitude and it would be nice if I could get some real information on it.

Oh well - big thanks for your efforts once again and hope you will all keep looking. There is very little that thousands of minds with a whole internet to play with can't achieve.

I tried this but the only link which came close was a similar question posted on TFP some time ago which never got its answer.

Someone else out there has the same question I do and is still searching for their answer.

Thats practically zen!!!

Hi Jetee

I mostly got into punk on account of Slayer and their covers album "undisputed attitude". It was though researching the original tracks that I got into bands which maybe never got the kind of publicity the pistols got, great bands like GBH from the UK and the US bands like verbal abuse, TSOL, DI, DRI, minor threat, Dr Know etc plus the godfather Iggy and his stooges!!! This is how I came by this rogue MP3 punk track and is also why the question still drives me nuts when I think about it too much. I should proabably relax hey?

Hey Martian

No this isn't twizta - I guess I joined TFP on account of twiztas post some time ago as the link on google for twiztas question was the only one in whole of google, till now, which came anywhere close to helping me find an answer. I thought I was so close I could practically smell it but when I checked the follow up posts they were all answering different questions. So I thought hey, lets open up a post on this question alone and see if a fresh assault on finding the answer would prove successful.

Only time will tell so all extremities are crossed...

Cool account, the one called the harrow.

I'd probably be the same way, too, if I had something unknown on my hands - I'd look around anywhere I could to find its originating context.

If you maybe posted the track in question, then maybe we could be of more use to you in ascertaining what you might be looking for - a name, band, influence, whatever.

Hello Wes Mantooth

It's a solid theory, for my piece of mind I hope you are wrong because if you are right it's needle in a haystack time as far as an answer is concerned.

Perhaps the 2nd verse will free up buried memories, it goes something like...

Put me in a cell
sit me on a chair
tried to talk to me I just fuckin stared
they blacked my eyes and smashed my face
and told me I'd be done for GBH

---------- Post added at 02:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:08 AM ----------

Hi Jetee

Yes I figured I could do that at some point but I'm fairly new at this TFP thing and need to do some more regular posts before TFP will let me put links in. That's why I've been such a busy little bee with all my replies to the posts so far.

As soon as I can get the track out there to you guys I will...promise!!

---------- Post added at 02:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:15 AM ----------

Ah Dlish

Would that be twizta?
Yes, I found that post but twizta never got an answer. Like I said to the others here there are 2 of us with the same unanswered question.

What are the odds?

Hey freeload, thanks for the link

I checked it out and no joy with the listed bands on there (as far as my question went) but looks like some cool stuff I have never seen or heard before.

You have just given me pandoras punk box

More sleepless nights locating this new material to listen to

Oh well

what if you shoot him a PM and find out if he ever found out?

SSJTWIZTA still comes regularly to TFP, so you should get an answer from him.

let us know if you find out!
