probably would have liked to see an Iron Maiden (for introducing songs about goblins and sea monsters) and Faith No More (For creating Nu Metal 10 years before the rest of the world)

That's a pretty damn good list. I like to see that most of the influential bluesmen get their due respect for shaping rock n' roll.

Lots of content there to think about. 500 is far too much to make a snap comment about, so no analysis yet from me.

Wow! I agree. Faith No More pretty much ushered in the era of rap-core/nu-metal that in the midst of now.

I don't see how you can have a list of 500 songs and NOT come up with a fully comprehensive list.

What about Public Enemy?
Little Richard?
Hank williams?

Are you gonna tell those artists didn't do more to shape rock music than Queen Latifah????!

edit:
Okay, Little Richard is on the list. He was under "R" and not "L". But still! Queen Latifah?

Yeah, take that one off and add Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire. That song has infulenced an entire generation of Neo-Rock a' Billy kids from the Stray Cats to fucking Social Distortion.

Edit: Okay... after I posted this I read it again and realized I have no point. But still... MC Hammer?

No Frank Zappa, no MC5, no UFO, no Maiden, no Faith No More.

No credibility.

Best X Y of Z lists are all crap anyhow. They are never more than someone fishing for an argument. (Not that the arguments are always irrelevant, but the lists usually are.)
