Unreleased Music

I have a friend, who somehow gets new cd's like 2 weeks before they are due to come out. Obviously he downloads em online and burns em, but where would someone get this info from to know what to search for? Are there sites that list upcoming cd's, are there wartez sites that actually make them available for download? Any info on this subject greatly appriciated.

Usually these are industry leaks that allow this to happen.

I work in the media business and we usually recieve something a few weeks to months before releasing so that we can create shows and packages to help market and hype the product.

It is a double edged sword because it used to be difficult to distribute these things outside of the industry, now it's really easy.

I will say that a number of our newest technologies they are encrypting and empbedding with traceable signatures so that they can figure out who was the person who leaked it.

Basically you can go to any number of music related websites to find release dates for albums months in advance. Also, radio stations get promo stuff in advance of the albums being "released". And as Cynthetiq pointed out, different media outlets get stuff in advance to "review" it. Another way I've gotten some is at live shows. Sometimes artists will have promo CD's for sale at their concerts before they are released to stores.

There are numerous ways to get this stuff. Sometimes, I take great pride in finding this stuff well before it is released to "the public". A good part of my CD collection is Promo CD's, that sometimes differ from the eventual release.

I used to work at a music distributor, and we were the peoplewho would actually pick all the orders for the stores. So any new releasewould come to us first...weeks sometimes even monthes before hand. We weren't "supposed" to be able to buy these releases until the release date, but with a a cool supervisor, who was a music junkie himself getting them was never a problem.

Example, I had Metallicasblack album nearly a month before the release date.
It was awesome to have it so early, but it had it's drawbacks...everyone and there brother wanted a copy of it!
