Some of these are a little too Motown-mellow, I'm sure, but some of these are excellent for your purposes.

A little better. I like the Otis Reding reference, though it doesn't fit what i'm looking for. I'll probably add the Seed and She Lives In My Lap though.

it might not be ghetto enough, but have you heard "lovage; songs to make love to your old lady by" ? some great duets, breaks and grooves.

oh yeah, how bout fun lovin' criminals? "king of the world" and "all my time is gone" come to mind... that guy has a great voice.

and finally... this really should work.....

deee lite's picnic in the summer time. thats one of my favorites ever.

Hope those are close to what you are looking for, not so much the R+B as hip-hop. For a more R+B flavor I recommend Marvin Gaye or Maxwell's first album.
