EBM - I give my soul to thee.
Ok, after an absolutely awesome Melotron/Covenant concert last night, I feel the need to preach my love for Industrial/EBM/Synthpop music.
The list of great groups goes on and on. It's fairly simple to get a good sound, and the lyrics are merely a bonus if they make sense. It's almost like how there are 50 billion good Trance songs if you like Trance. It's a general *sound* that makes your body move. I like to describe the genre to people who dont understand it as 'Depeche Mode, only a lot harder' I'm friends with one of the pioneers of Industrial/Club music, a DJ at the old LA club Kontrol Factory. He tells me about how Industrial started to die out in the late 90's, there wasn't enough evolution in the style, so a lot of the artists can now be found in the field of Psytrance. I see that evolution in recent EBM releases... less Industrial, more dancey/trancey beats. Thus the evolution of Synthpop. I'm lovin' it all.

I am very much into EBM music. More bordering on harsh industrial/EBM however (as opposed to synthpop and the like)
Hocico and Wumpscut are two leaders of this particular "harsh EBM" category in my personal opinion. There are many others though: ogo, cenobita, FAV, anaesth, l'ame immortelle, KIFOTH siechtum, feindflug, kiew....just to name a few. |

Oh god. Been into industrial for a while man. Gotta love the older stuff -- Nitzer Ebb, Neubauten, Skinny Puppy but I love the newer stuff too. New favorites right now is Grendels new track "Hate This" and The Retrosic 'Nightcrawler' album even though it's been out for a while. I've had some Tactical Sekt stuck in my head right now too.
I've got meself an industrial/ebm band that's actually doing quite well. If you'd like check it out and give me some of your thoughts. http://www.myspace.com/forceismachine Oh and Halx... gotta admit I'm kinda jealous that you got to see Melotron. ![]() |

Jesus, I'm fucking old. When one says EBM, I think of Front 242, Casandra Complex, Ministry circa Twitch, and stuff like that.

Still, I've been listening to Digital Gunfire since you first showed me that link (1 or 2 years ago now, maybe? Ever since I switched to foobar as my music player, I know that), Halx, and it has kicked ass the entire time. It's very true that the evolution of the style is definitely still in motion, unlike some of the electronic music styles out there. I must say, I'm glad of it. As long as they keep making stuff I like, I'll keep listening.
