I started this thread because...I guess I just wanted to say how awesome Russian classical music is. For those of you who think classical music sucks, or is gay or lame, check this shit out!
Dmitri Shostakovich: String Quartet 8: This is heavy metal for strings. Literally, it sounds as good as the heaviest Metallica song, and it's 10 times as hard to play. Huge cello chords, dissonant melodies, this thing rocks.
Modeste Mussorgsky: Night on Bald Mountain and some of Pictures At an Exhibition: You've all heard "Night" and it's seriously awesome. The basses have lightning-fast triplets that make the spooky melodies that much better. And come on, it's about Tchernobog, "Black God" in Russian.
Pictures at an Exhibition also features some devilish stuff, but it also has the Promenade, which is one of the most...moving things I've ever heard.
Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov: Capriccio Espagnol: A Russian does Spanish music better than the spaniards- violins are "quasi-gitarra" often, they hold the violins like a guitar and strum.
Sergei Rachmaninov: All Night Vespers: Church music at its best, featuring much cooler texts- Voskresenije Kristovo- Resurrection hymn is practically metal music itself, with a 100 person choir!

I have a lot more if anyone cares!

Is there any way to hear it without buying it? I doubt I could find those through normal downloading methods.

Rachmaninov is fairly popular on Limewire, and Night On Bald Mountain is in Fantasia, if you happen to have any kids...otherwise check out

for Midi files of most of these pieces and even some streaming audio of them.
