Bon Scott or Brian Johnson?

Been listening to a lot of AC/DC lately, and I cant seem to make up my mind as to who is better...How bout you?

05-30-2003 10:30 PM

Bon Scott

Fly 05-31-2003 01:59 AM

they're both great .

each has a diff style so i can deal with 'em both

*like the Zep av too eh*

krwlz 05-31-2003 05:21 AM

Well, lemme see if I can get a mod to add a third choice where they were both great...

krwlz 06-01-2003 07:26 PM

Wow, no one for Brian Johnson so far...

Thraeryn 06-01-2003 08:11 PM

Brian Johnson is GOOD, but he's just not GREAT like Bon was. He's a good replacement, he meshes with the band well, but it's not the same as having Bon around.

brandon11983 06-02-2003 12:55 PM

bon scott was before my time, and i grew up listening to brian johnson, so he gets my vote.

90degree 06-02-2003 01:54 PM

Bon.

perfectly said.

I LOVE AC/DC
my favorite band.

hotzot 06-02-2003 11:03 PM

Ditto, I like them both

Atomic Pinkie 06-03-2003 12:32 AM

they both contributed to the success

hawkeye 06-03-2003 09:22 PM

I liked them both.

BulletBob 06-04-2003 03:13 PM

Both, but Brian Johnson if you're forcing me to pick

vermin 06-05-2003 09:39 AM

Bon, definitely. Brian sounded good on Back In Black, but has gone downhill since then.

Cujo 06-05-2003 10:46 AM

Bon, I've only heard Brian slaughter Big Balls once and that was enough for me.

siogo 06-06-2003 10:05 AM

It's gotta be Bon Scott.
Brian was great on 'Back in black' but it's gone downhill over the last Twenty years.

Spungfoo 06-06-2003 11:08 AM

It doesn't really matter. AC/DC has made the same album 20 times regardless of the singer. Although, they're the only band besides Motorhead that can get away with that :D

krwlz 06-07-2003 06:47 AM

Hey now there are differances in the songs!! Its just their overwhelming style that makes 'em all sound alike!;)

perripken 06-09-2003 03:49 PM

I voted for Bon Scott, not that I don't like Brian Johnson. I just always liked Bon's voice better.

maddog30 07-01-2003 01:29 AM

i like them both & they have both done good things for the band.
ACCA DACCA

bundy 07-01-2003 10:28 PM

two great, and different aspects for an AWESOME band.

Cujo 07-02-2003 07:03 PM

May I suggest to all those who never got to see Bon in concert that you load up Kazaa (lite of course) or some other P2P prog and DL "ACDC - 1977 full concert" Bon and Angus in their prime ripping the fuckin roof off London’s Hammersmith Odeon.

Man I'd give my left nut just to hear Bon sing Hells Bells or F.T.A.T.R.

Jamkid 07-02-2003 09:07 PM

Both of their voices fit into the group perfectly. Was a damn shame when Bon died. I really have to hand it to Brian though... how many groups have survived the loss of a lead singer to go on and become even more popular with a new singer. Met Brian and the boys backstage in L.A. awhile back. They seemed to be pleasant enough.

If you're forcing me to pick it would also be Brian Johnson. But I like both.

Brian's voice is just a bit stronger in a way. May be the fact that Back in Black was my first AC/DC album biased me a bit.

Panopticon 07-04-2003 10:13 PM

I like Bon Scott a lot better. Don't get me wrong, Brian Johnson is good, but he is no Bon Scott. Bon had pipes from hell.

JohnnyRock 07-05-2003 07:02 AM

They both have great voices and great style...can't go wrong with either!!

attercop1 07-05-2003 08:24 AM

Bon Scott, absolutely; nothin' like the old stuff..Whole Lotta Rosie, Bad Boy Boogie, Riff Raff...

Lee Joyce 07-10-2007 01:12 PM

Brian Johnson (Hear me out)

I've gotta make this test fair by judging on the voices heard when both singers were at there prime. Brian Johnson was just awesome on back in black and i think he was the only man to be able to do it that well. so he gets my vote, tho Bon scott is a great singer.

eribrav 07-10-2007 03:52 PM

Wow a blast from the past.

Throw my hat in with Bon Scott.

That's in keeping with "Whole lotta Rosie" being my favorite AC/DC tune.

I voted for Bon Scott.

I think a lot of the material for back in black was written before Bon Scott died, which is why it sounded better.

Val_1 07-18-2007 09:44 AM

I don't see anything good about Brian Johnson. Bon Scott all the way.

ryfo 07-19-2007 12:29 AM

Bon Scott forever and always Still remember going to the local to see ACDC when I was young.

Derwood 07-19-2007 02:16 PM

no option for "I hate both?" ;)

Luggy 07-26-2007 11:24 PM

both sound great...but if forced to choose i would pick brian johnson

radioguy 07-28-2007 05:42 PM

Bon Scott All The Way!!!!

Sion 07-29-2007 11:16 AM

Johnson is the better singer of the two, but Scott wrote more interesting lyrics and had more variety in his delivery.

Nimetic 08-01-2007 06:15 PM

Check the old videos... this'll help you decide who's a more interesting character. IHMO that is..

raithneach 08-04-2007 08:53 AM

Bon Johnson gets my vote...lol!!

spindles 08-21-2007 02:54 PM

Well, an economist has done a 'test' that says Brian Johnson is better:

http://www.smh.com.au/news/music/sci...462266169.html

Quote:

ONE was an Australian larrikin famous for his hard drinking and hellraising, the other is an Englishman famous for wearing a flat cap and recording the landmark Back in Black album.

The AC/DC singers Bon Scott and Brian Johnson have both made an enormous impact but debate has raged for years over who was the better frontman.

Now an economist has come up with an answer in a paper titled On the Efficiency of AC/DC: Bon Scott versus Brian Johnson. Robert Oxoby, of the Behavioural and Experimental Economics Laboratory at the University of Calgary, played a group of students Scott's rendition of It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock'n'Roll) and Johnson's Shoot to Thrill in separate listening sessions.

Rather than focusing on "the aural or sonic quality of the vocalists' performances", Dr Oxoby wanted to ascertain how the two performances influenced the students' decision-making. More specifically, he was testing the effect the two voices had on the choices of people distributing and requesting money.

The results will dismay fans of Scott, who died in London in 1980 at the age of 33 after choking on his vomit, and delight supporters of Johnson, who replaced him at the microphone the same year.

"Our analysis suggests that in terms of affecting efficient decision-making among listeners, Brian Johnson was a better singer," wrote Dr Oxoby, who admits the issue of vocal quality may never be resolved, even by economists.

Sceptics who feel that the university's resources might be put to better use are missing the wider implications.

"Our analysis has direct implications for policy and organisational design: when policymakers or employers are engaging in negotiations and are interested in playing the music of AC/DC, they should choose from the band's Brian Johnson era discography," Dr Oxoby wrote. His paper was published earlier this year, but is only now receiving wider attention.
