Sailing Columbia

Astoria has hundreds of old, dead pilings along the waterfront that make for some interesting photos. I took half a dozen pictures of this sailboat before I got one that was fairly acceptable. This was around the same time as the bridge silhouette in my "Bridges" thread. The sun was just heading for the horizon.

I'm just getting back into photography after many years of doing nothing except "snapshots".
Here are some more of Willamette & Columbia rivers.

Really nice picture. You should try putting some definition in the clouds in the background =)

Yeah. I know what you mean about the definition. The lighting was difficult that day, bright and hazy at the same time, if you know what I mean. I almost gave up on this picture, but then I decided I liked the transparent quality of the sky. It's a lot more visible in the larger size. I didn't realize that I would lose this much resolution with the 600x400 size. Here's the 1024x768. Is that what you had in mind?

That resolution makes a big difference...I like when people post that size, hehe. It's not really what I meant by definition, but your point makes a lot of sense in the picture. I meant manually put in some definition via Photoshop or something. But now that I can see more clearly, I like the haziness (especially of the landscape on the horizon).
