Lew Rockwell's interview of Mark Thornton
Lew Rockwell
Please listen to Lew Rockwell’s 10-minute interview of Dr. Mark Thornton: The Lew Rockwell Show - 69. The Case for Bigger Government (Nov 16, 2008) Dr. Thornton has written two papers providing empirical evidence that total governmental expenditures decrease as the number of representatives increases. In the interview, they discuss some of the arguments for increasing the number of federal Representatives. Walter Williams Walter Williams wrote a brief article about the need to enlarge our federal representation: Washington Times - WILLIAMS: Political monopoly power (Oct 19, 2008) In his syndicated article, "Political Monopoly Power", Dr. Williams observes that "restricting the number of representatives confers significant monopoly power that goes a long way toward explaining the stranglehold the two parties have and the high incumbent success rates. It might also explain the power of vested interest groups to influence congressional decisions."

I'll admit I didn't listen to this, but I'm just curious... how would they fit all these people in the House? I've visited it on a tour in D.C. and that place is CRAMPED with chairs.
Not to mention, isn't gerrymandering a much larger issue? |
