Darfur crisis in Sudan
 

Is the US media completely ignoring this one? I read Hansard (weird, I know) and the UK International Development Minister, Hilary Benn called the crisis <i>"the most serious humanitarian emergency in the world today"</i> after returning from the Sudan. The US and UK governments are donating millions of dollars in aid, although it seems that the rest of the world is lagging behind.

Sudan can't seem to pass the US's test on humanitarian aid:

1. If country has valuable resource (Read: Oil) send humanitarian aid, and troops.

2. If country lacks resources but is populated by white people, send aid.

3. If country lacks resources and white people but has islamic terrorists, send troops.

4. If a country lacks resources, white people and islamic terrorists, tell the country to go fuck itself.

See, Sudan clearly falls under the fourth part of US foreign policy, and thus, Sudan can't recieve help from the US.

/That was an attempt at funny but ended up kinda of tragic.

Well the US is the largest single donor to charities and aid agencies working in the region, so that's not exactly fair. What was implied was that the UK was the second, and shouldnt be, as pretty much the rest of the G8 has more money than the Brits.

My question is why is the US media completely ignoring this situation? Also stated in the Commons debate linked above was that this could turn into another Rwanda - unless things change quickly.

I would be willing to bet that the US is also the lowest Western contributor when contributions are viewed against GDP.
