i'm involved in a situation where between my partner and I, anal stimulation is found pleasureable for its "alternativeness" aspect rather than any pleasureable nerve stimulation
(ie the mental rather than physical aspects)

this seems to stop working when we try too often; so my question is this...

other than not doing it very often, are there any other ways of forming an increased association between anal play / stimulation and the sense of naughtiness / taboo?

We go with "not doing it very often," but also include talking dirty and/or masturbating & using toys to enhance the experience.

I would suggest adding more to the experience to couple actual pleasure with the exotic experience of anal. As Anormalguy pointed out, use toys. I would also suggest taking it to different locations or situations.
