uh-oh condom broke

I just had a condom break :( How likley is it for my GF to concieve on the second day after her period stoped? Incase it matters, I hadn't came and the condom had spermicide on it.

We're going to our health center tomorrow (well actually today now) in the morning. How effective is EC if taken within 10 hours or so?

THanks!

I believe there is a 72 hour window for the morning after pill, so if it's taken ten hours after the event things should be ok.

When I was a wee bit younger the time limit was 48 hours on morning after pill, it may well have changed with better meds now though.

I guess this is about the time to start looking for contraceptive better than condoms dontcha think?

The time limit these days is indeed 72 hours so if she takes the pill within just 10 hours then the chance of pregnancy is 0 so you need not worry

There's a 72 hour window with the morning after pill.

Up to 24 hours has a 95% rate of "success"
Up to 48 hours has a 85% rate of "success"
and up to 72 hours drops to less than 50% rate of "success"

We're allready on that. She was supposed to have her first pap smear on Tuesday so she could get on depo next time around. I guess this will put stuff off another month. Shit

After the initial shock wore off and I could get her calmed down, I cracked that joke.

Just an FYI for ya...

It is not technically possible to get pregnant from anal sex; there is no way for semen to get from the rectal tract to the vaginal tract.

However, anal sex is still not a very good method of birth control. Semen leaking from the anus after intercourse may drip across the perineum (the short stretch of skin separating vulva and anus) and cause what is known as a 'splash' conception. The failure rate for this is surprisingly high! 8% of couples of who use anal sex as a method of birth control have babies each year.

AH, no Depo!! That was the biggest mistake I've ever made. She'll probably gain like 30 lbs, get really bitchy and stop getting her period (that totally fucks with her hormones). I would try something that doesn't have any hormones in it, like an IUD.

Congrats that you guys are taking that extra step of protection whatever you decide to do

My mum got an IUD and it slipped out like half a dozen times and caused her major bleeding. I've been on Depo for 6 months now and it hasn't caused more than bitchiness (most birthcontrol forms do) and slight weight gain of four pounds or so.

I think you don't even need to worry about her getting pregnant from that, you hadn't cum and the condom had spermicide, the only possibility would have been from precum and the spermicide should have taken care of that.

davik 09-12-2004 10:10 PM

Sounds like you're pretty much in the clear since you hadn't actually cum and you were using a spermicidal condom; that being said, other forms are always good, especially in combination. And for condoms, while you probably already know to do this (though you might be surprised how many guys don't), remember to pinch the resevoir tip to remove air while you roll it on; it drastically reduces the chances of breaking the condom.
