Anyone planning on going to the Athens Olympics???

Just wondering whether anyone will be making the trek to Athens for the 2004 games????

I was at the Sydney Olympics and it was one of the best couple of weeks I've had. The atmosphere around the town was electric and everyone was in such a good mood.

If I can get the time off work I will be there for sure. Anyone else planning a trip? And if you are, any idea whether tickets have been released yet?

Nope.

If I'm going to go on a road trip to see some sports, I'd go to something like the Super Bowl, or all the Stanley Cup games, not some track and field events.

One day an Englishman, a Scotsman, and an Irishman walked into a pub together. They each bought a pint of Guinness. Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!"

Olympics is not just track and field. There's a whole bunch of other sports.

I see where you're coming from though. I think the two trips would be vastly different experiences indeed and both more than worth it. It would be great to see the Superbowl but there's just something about the Olympics that makes it so much more exciting. Probably the fact that I don't live in America

The Olympics is more about atmosphere than anything else. It's about walking around, finding people from your own country, banding together and supporting the hell outta the athletes representing you. It's a great way to meet heaps of people from all over the world and have an awesome time while doing it. And because it happens only once every four years the athletes take the events more seriously.

That was my biggest dissapointment watching professional live US sporting teams - the guys just didn't seem to care
(it was regular season but I still think they should've put forth a little more effort)
