NHL - Penguins - Caron

Let's see how Pittsburgh's new $3.2 million dollar goalie has fared so far:
32-35, 3 GA
28-32, 4 GA
31-38, 7 GA
29-37, 8 GA

Through his first 4 games of his career, he has let in 22 goals. Thats over 5 goals a game. This guy has to do something, I mean come on, 22 GA.

wait a minute now...

i admit, he is letting up a lot of goals, but...
look at the shot totals in those 4 games, the penguins have no D whatsoever.

and those are not the first four games of his career - the reason they signed him to a 3.2 million $ contract is because he played so well last year. (in 24 games he had a 2.64 GAA, and a .916 save %)

Whoops, sorry bout the first 4 comment.

Even with a crappy defense, 7 and 8 goals are still a lot of goals to give up. Goalies have gotten shutouts on 50+ before, these are only 39.

well, alot depends on the type of shots you're taking. 1 good shot is better than 50 bad shots.
Caron is no match for the youngster Fleury, who's posted a 2.58 GAA and a .927 SV% so far. That, in comparison to Caron's 5.66 GAA and .845 SV%.

Pittsburg's problem is not their goaltending. The problem is Mario Lemieux.

I'm not going to deny his obvious skill and the fact that he is one of the best players to ever play the game but let's face reality. He's in the twilight of his career and he'll never post the numbers like he used to again. Here is a guy that is making $5,250,000 on a financially straped team and he'll only play in maybe 35 - 40 games this year barring any sort of serious injury. The Penguins cannot afford to be paying anyone $130,000 a game (if he plays 40). The only plus he brings is he sells tickets.

If he really wants to continue to play, he needs to restructure his contract. Is he worth $5,250,000. Sure, maybe to a team that can afford to pay him that much but not to the Penguins. Drop Mario's contract and they could sign 2 competent forwards at $2,000,000 each and still save money. Even with just average seasons they would more than make up the 50 - 60 points lost by Mario leaving between the 2 of them and give Pittsburg tools to build upon instead of relying on an aging star.

Just my 2 cents.

Caron gets paid $3.2 million dollars? what a joke! I can see paying this guy somewhere in the 1-2 million dollar range but that's a lot of money for a 2nd year goaltender.

Marc-Andre Fleury is the pinnacle of this team and will be for years to come. That is unless the franchise folds due to bankrupcy.
