Great series so far.

Cant blame the refs, the 5 on 3 was justified. Both penalties were justified...

Still, flames in 7!!!

sherpahigh 06-02-2004 08:23 AM

Looks like Nemo's out for game 5. Load of shite in my opinion but what can you do?

Both penalties may have been justified but there was another call that was justified and not called and that was the retaliation on Clark.

If Vinny's out on the ice tomorrow night he's going to have a bit of a target painted on him. Going to ba a good game to watch.

Go Flames!

00111000 06-02-2004 09:54 AM

I don't know what it is, but every time I see Vinny I want to hit him with a sack full of doorknobs. I'll admit he is a hell of a hockey player...but there is just something about him that angers me.

Serpent 06-02-2004 12:15 PM

Hopefully the NHL will start cracking down on head hunters.. even stillman should of been suspended for his hit in game 1 was it? Anyway, if you get caught headhunting like that, they should call atleast a 2 minute penalty, have it reviewed quick to see if 5 and or a game misconduct is in order.. And possible suspensions from then on..

Ace_O_Spades 06-02-2004 05:38 PM

I'm glad they suspended him... It sends a message that you can't just go intentionally try to injure a star player... or ANY player for that matter... what a bone head

the_marq 06-03-2004 06:28 AM

Yeah, the hit would have been fine if he had not punched Vince in the back of the head. THe suspension was justified IMO.

sherpahigh 06-03-2004 06:42 AM

Punched him in the back of the head? Do you mean raised his arms and hit checked him from behind into the boards? I didn't see any swings in the million and a half times I've watched the replay.

Doesn't matter, maybe the suspension was justified, I could see that. What pisses me off about the situation is the inconsistancy in which all these hits are being called. There have been some questionable hits from both sides in this series and Nemo's the one who gets targeted. It was the same in Detroit. The lesson learnt is that as long as it's not a star player, it's ok. At least that's what I'm getting from it all.

I agree, the NHL is the most inconsistant of any sport in refereeing games.. Although i do think an elbow is alot harder then a fist..

I agree, if only the devil were listening, that is going to be crazy, I wish I wasn't 3,210.8 kilometers away or I'd be there.

diddagirl 06-03-2004 08:57 PM

Wow. What a game. I swear I can almost taste the cup. I cant even try to imagine what it will be like here on Saturday if we win. Definitly never to be forgotten......

hehehehehehehehe Gonna be a great weekend!!

Giddy and off to bed.

Go Flames!!!

losthellhound 06-04-2004 04:09 AM

It was a great game.. Had trouble concentrating on it, but I'm sure that will pass for the next game

matteo101 06-04-2004 05:21 AM

Wow, this is awesome. Iginila is clutch. The streets of Calgary are going to party like no other, if they can win the cup at home. I can't wait til saturday night.

DDDDave 06-04-2004 05:46 AM

OK, OK. Get over yourselves :) :) :)

It sucks. We didn't play good and they did and we lost. There, I said it. It still doesn't feel any better though.

The Forum was electric but nothing like it will be on Monday night when we play for the Cup. But it sure won't happen if we don't play better than that. Too many mistakes. The passing was sloppy, too many turnovers. Khabi played good but there were too many breakdowns. Iginla played like the stud that he is. Nobody else for the Flames seemed to stand out, just good solid team play.

I've said before the losses are never as bad as they seem, but damn, that hurt.

sherpahigh 06-04-2004 06:23 AM

Man that was a great game last night. I was on the edge of my seat the whole game other than the times I was jumping outta my seat with anticipation or celebration. Back and forth there for awhile, a huge attack by the flames that seemed to last for 5 min. Kipper and 'Bulin with some amazing saves...Great Hockey.

Can't wait to do it all again on Saturday. Just got to figure out a way to get into the building.

17th after the game last night was packed. 50,000 strong having a great time. I highfived everyone from a husband and wife in their 70's to a 1 year old sitting on his dad's shoulders. The little guy gave me a high five and then 2 thumbs up!

Go Flames Go!!

Ace_O_Spades 06-04-2004 07:32 AM

the best part about all this is... each home team has a chance to win the cup at home... which I really like, I hate seeing teams win the cup on the road... because the building is just like ... ".... :("

I love hearing the fans EXPLODE

I wish I had access to all the tapes, It would be fun to compile clips of similar incedents and show if they were called or not.
Might even be able to compile data to show if the stars do indeed get more calls on a questionable play than do the non-stars of the league.

That would be interesting to see. Throw the hit on Gelinas on there from last night too...No Call.

I just want to say one thing.

Bay of White?

Lame. Very lame.

And that whole 'last minute effort' thing makes it look more like a sense of desperation instead of a rallying point.

On the white thing..... Agreed. So did a lot of people.

I wore my 'lucky' black shirt. So much for that.

Haven't heard about 'last minute effort' but I know Tortarella has pretty much called the team out and said 'We will not win without a 60 minute effort'. I took that to mean he hasn't seen one yet. I think the Lightning will respond with their best game of series tonight, because they know that if they don't, they will get beat.

I watched the TiVo of Game 5 last night and had forgotten how close the St.Loius shot late in the third came to going in. It looked like Kiprisoff got it caught in between his skates at the time. We would have won that game and 'stolen' one after being outplayed most of the night. Ouch. It still stings.

Anyway, I hope it is a good game tonight.

Serpent 06-05-2004 09:02 AM

YEah game 5 does sting, but i think it will be some great motivation for the lightining to bring game 7 back to tampa. The sea of white wasn't a last minute thing, was planned out ever since the "orange crush" in philly, wasn't till game 5 that they had all the shirts.

Quadraton 06-05-2004 10:00 AM

So, it took them until the fifth game of the Stanley Cup final to come up with the shirts so that they could rip off someone else's identity (referring to the 'White Out' of the now defunct Winnipeg Jets).

Still very lame.

edit:

And you know, if I were in Marketing for the Lightning, I wouldn't have come up with that whole Bay of White crap. Instead, I would have made everyone wear black shirts, and called it a Blackout (in reference to what lightning can sometimes cause). Pretty clever, yes?

At least then they wouldn't appear as though they copying off of Calgary's C of Red, as well as taking Winnipeg's White Out.

I wonder if they're taking resumes?

Ace_O_Spades 06-05-2004 11:44 AM

I often wonder what marketing execs are thinking... but that is pretty clever quad

Fly 06-05-2004 12:54 PM

Canada brings home the cup tonight folks..........

gonna be one hell of a game.

DDDDave 06-05-2004 01:49 PM

Quad,

They tried. Seriously. The league office would not allow the team to authorize everyone wearing black. Something about the goalie not being able to see the puck. Gee, ya think???

How about this though. Have the shirts made up with one side in white and the other side in black. Then 'encourage' the fans opposite Kiprusoff to wear them. Switch during periods. It would be cool. Half in white, half in black, switching during periods. At least it would be unique.

Gonna be an awesome game tonight.

Averett 06-05-2004 04:03 PM

GO FLAMES GO!

Averett 06-05-2004 06:36 PM

Good ol tampa, takin it to 7

josh_s08 06-05-2004 08:24 PM

I think the NHL blew this one. The Flames should of won it. The call that the puck was on a edge looked totaly wrong from the angle they were showing on TV. (incase you dont know, a shot was taken, and the puck appeared to cross the line, but the NHL said it wasent entirely accrost). The zoomed picture that ABC was showing clearly showed, to me, white ice between the puck and the blue line.

Anyway, the flames should win it, making it 13 in a row for the lightening to win-lose.

Ace_O_Spades 06-05-2004 08:26 PM

I think they said the puck was in the air, so thats why you saw white

but it doesnt matter now, it will never change anything anymore

i hear,feel,.....and saw your pain man...........

rules:inconclusive.........

....and it sorta was.

i myself felt that the puck crossed the line but,..........what can i do about it now right?

'nother the day for the sun to come up.

00111000 06-05-2004 08:58 PM

It looked in to me. Khabibulin was down and his toe was behind the goal line. It looked like the puck went off the kicker right where the the face meets the boot area, very close indeed. Either way...game 7's kick ass, it's just a shame Calgary is not going to win it at home. :D

Serpent 06-05-2004 09:01 PM

I think that angle was rather deciving, the puck was a blur at that point and looked more like an optical illusion then anything.. The overhead view didn't show that the puck went in, question is were the frames per second high enough to match the other camera?

Saw some stills on the close goal by calgary, and it looks like if the puck is on the ice it would be a goal, but if it is airborne it is right on the crease/red line area. Which would support the overhead cam not showing a goal.. Either way, unless someone got a real photo of it from ice level and at a high shutter speed, it will forever be labeled as no goal..

Oh and here is one of the nhl guys that had the call on whether it was a goal or not:

"We reviewed a number of camera angles and only one showed the puck," said Colin Campbell, the NHL director of hockey operations. "Based on the angle of the image and the fact that the puck was in the air and on edge, there was insufficient evidence that the puck conclusively crossed the goal line."

Ace_O_Spades 06-05-2004 09:35 PM

And the word came from on high

"no goal"

i wonder what would have happened if it was a goal after careful review? would they just say "no" anyway? or would they admit it and blow up the controversy?

matteo101 06-05-2004 10:54 PM

That is no way to win a stanley cup anyways. I thank god, that it didnt go down like that. Halx im impressed your watching hockey. Monday night is...i cant even call it, because i am cheering for either or, buth teams are chaulked full of canadians, and both are lower market teams.

Shit.

This city was total madness all day yesterday. Huge city wide party.

I am hung right over and I can't wait till tomorrow night. Flames will take it, they want it real bad and they will take it.

THANK YOU GOD!

Being neutral I must say that I am thrilled that there's going to be a game 7. I've been dying for a Game 7 OT my entire life, maybe this will be the year.

And if it comes down to that, GO FLAMES.

sherpahigh 06-06-2004 07:26 PM

I don't know if I can take another OT. The whole game feels like OT to me these last few games. Intense stuff.

diddagirl 06-06-2004 08:18 PM

Wholy crap. I am so nervous for tomorrow's game. Its really any ones at this point. The teams are both very equally matched and obviously want it very bad. However I do think Canadian fans on a whole are much more into this and excited for Calgary to win. I suppose it would be expected because Canada is hockey. Good luck Flames!

Go_AVS 06-06-2004 08:58 PM

The Flames were robbed last night but nothing beats a game 7. I just hope the every other game win and lose for the Lightning stays in effect Monday night.

Makes me think about the AVS game 7 against the Devils. The Pepsi Center was electric from the drop of the puck to the end. Just hope TB is not like that. Can not see a road team winning in that environment. The Flames just got to score quick and quiet the crowd. Got to get the CUP back in the West...

Go Flames...

If I had to work today I'd be pretty screwed

but being sick sucks

Man, I'm getting in the car to drive to the Forum. I can hardly sit still. Gotta have a beer to settle me down :) I can assure you it will be absolutely electric. It is always like your first rock concert.
Game 7 against Philly was intense, this one is going to be too!!!

If this game goes to overtime, they better send defibrillators to the Saddledome and the Forum.

If we play our game, we win. If we don't or if the Flames get lucky :) :), we could lose. I think our team has the combination of young lions and wily vets to get it done tonight.

GOOOO LIGHTNING !!!

Ace_O_Spades 06-07-2004 03:56 PM

Brad Richards for MVP

he's been incredible... points leader going into game 7... if he scores and they win, wooo what a fuckin streak that is!

I mean Iginla scored more goals, but he has less points, and far more PIM... if thats even a consideration? hmmm

anyway

Richards for MVP

00111000 06-07-2004 03:58 PM

Gah!! Stuck at work...People are gonna die if I don't get out of here in time to see the game!! as a side note...NHL radio offically sucks the asscock. It used to be decent but now I get about 10 minutes of the game and then it just cuts out or repeats itself...maybe it's just my connection here.

No offense to Flames fans, since I was rooting for them to get to the cup once my Aves were out, but I really wanted Tampa Bay to win. I really think it's cool when a team wins their first cup ever.

Next year, Abby's going to rock the world and lead my Aves to the cup!

matteo101 06-07-2004 07:43 PM

Well it is all over. There has been 944 posts posted on the tfp, for this years stanley cup playoffs, countless arguements, hundreds of opinions and many predictions. It has been a great nhl season, and an amazing playoffs. Anyone care to make any predictions for next season?

Corneo 06-07-2004 07:46 PM

Kerry F. should be axed.

Ace_O_Spades 06-07-2004 08:10 PM

Nobody in either organization should be axed... You can't complain how the flames did at all this season... Sutter for coach of the year.

Tirian 06-07-2004 08:15 PM

No matter what - everyone has to ask why it is that the league yanked K.F. for game 6 after loosing control of games 2 and 4, and then he's back in for 7. You just have to ask why ? Of course the league does not have to answer.

Flames were robbed in game 6 but CONGRATS to the Lightning for bringing the CUP to their fans on home ice. What a great feeling that is to see your team win the CUP in game 7 on home ice.

Sorry Flames, this could have been your magical year. Next year, if there is a NHL next year, the CUP is coming home to Colorado...

CONGRATS AGAIN TO THE LIGHTNING!!!

DDDDave 06-07-2004 09:22 PM

Oh Man, what can I say. ?

The game was awesome. The team works all year for home ice advantage and in Game 7 it counts. You guys are bitching about the refs and a penalty at the end?!?, the game is won on the ice, the Flamers had thir chances......it was over....they got beat. Iginla - 0 shots? Khabi stood on his head, it was our year.
