Wow. Yankees v. Bosox 7/1/04

What a game... what a game.. anyone else watch this game?...

here's a link from ESPN

Wowzers... both teams played an awesome game... great game... up there with last year's ALCS game..

THIS is why Boston/New York is THE best rivalry in ALL of sports..

Halx 07-01-2004 08:09 PM

I had my rivalry played out well too. Giants vs Dodgers. Lead changes all over the game. Finally, 4-5 in the 9th, Gagne comes in to strike out the side. Ahh... sweet victory.

jasonresno 07-01-2004 08:11 PM

That is nowhere near the Yank/Sox game. My god. I shat myself when Jeter dove for that. and doubly so when cairo, flaherty, and sierra became clutch.

thephuse 07-01-2004 09:07 PM

getting out of the bases loaded jam w/ no outs... A-Rod's "triple-play" double play.. and when Jeter dove into the stands after making that catch and getting up bloodied, I thought to myself, THATS why the Yankees will never even THINK of trading Jeter, compared to what Boston and Nomar are doing to each other.

Manny's HR, and then the clutch 2-out single, double, double by Sierra, Cairo and Flaherty.. wow.. I'll never forget it :D

best rivalry in all of sports... hmm yeah i can see it

I can think of a few others, but nothing like bo sox/yanks

dylanmarsh 07-02-2004 05:33 AM

Yeah, I sat glued to MLB.TV for this one. It felt like game 7 of last year's playoff. I curse thee, Miguel Cairo!!!

BigGov 07-02-2004 09:34 AM

It was a great series, and I thought Sheffield's at-bat where he fouled off about 8 or 10 pitches and eventually hit the grounder through third was going to be the best play this series. Wow, was I off or what?

onetime2 07-02-2004 09:50 AM

Yep definitely a great game.

Disagree about the Yanks dealing Jeter though. They will as soon as it suits their needs.

I'd have to say it's the best rivalry in any pro sport (here in the US at least) but then I'm a Red Sox fan so I may be a bit biased. ;)

The only thing that could make the rivalry better would be a World Series between the two. Now that would be insane.

BigGov 07-02-2004 12:19 PM

Insane because it's impossible...

And the Yanks won't deal Jeter unless he stays far past his years. If he leaves the Yanks, it will be because he wants to.

dylanmarsh 07-02-2004 07:20 PM

Okay, Theo, time to make a trade! Christ. Back to back games lost in extra innings.

jasonresno 07-02-2004 08:43 PM

Jeter is a yankee until he wants to leave. He is just one of the reasons I love baseball.

Mondak 07-03-2004 07:22 AM

I am still horse! Those games were unreal! Holy crap!

I think I figured out a way for the Sox to reverse the curse of Ruth BTW.....They have to have the Yankees trade...no... sell Jeter to them. I think that would do it.

Bwa ha ha ha ha!

No really it's impossible? No way. My point was that the rivalry would be taken to a whole new level.

Yanks will deal Jeter as soon as he isn't productive enough for them.

thephuse 07-04-2004 08:06 PM

The day Jeter isnt productive enough will be when he's at the end of his career, and we will retire his number, as he retires himself... w0rd up.

Do you guys really believe that Steinbrenner wouldn't trade Jeter if it improved his shot at another Championship? If yes, then I'm amazed. Steinbrenner only cares about winning. The people and personalities that go along with it are way down the list of importance.

I tend to agree with you Onetime, King George would trade Jeter in a heartbeat if there were someone better and available.

Amazing bit of trivia about George, before he bought the Yankees, he tried to buy the Indians but Stouffer took Steve O'Neill's offer. So George bought the yankees and took Gabe Paul from Cleveland that ended up in their getting many Cleveland prospects (Nettles, Chamblis, Pinella, and so on) for chump change.

Ah, just think what George could have done in Cleveland.
