College Football
So after watching Michigan put a hurtin on northwestern in the second half and now watching the Wisconsin game I've come to the realization that in a few years, the big ten is going to be an even more scarier conference.
look at this: Justin Zwick starting qb at ohio state is a freshman Drew Tate starting QB at Iowa is a sophmore, John Stocco starting qb at Wisconsin is a sophmore, MSU has Three quarter backs they can choose from and John L. Smith is really moving that program along well. Michigan has Chad Henne who looks like he's going to be a stud and Michael Hart who is already stud. With all of this offensive fire power and the defensive consistency in the conference, this looks like one scary conference next year or two years from now. any thoughts?

or the big 12 where okalahoma gets an automatic bid to the BCS every year because they have to play teams like... missouri or kansas ? seriously, the big ten doesn't have the speed to match some teams but how many other conferences put 6 teams in a bowl game every year?

Also, what about Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas Tech,Texas A&M and normally fairly strong Nebraska and Kansas State teams? I don't think Oklahoma is the best team in the nation this year, but they played some fairly strong competition. Also, Oklahoma didn't play Missouri. Why get excited about the big 10? Wisconsin has beat 0 ranked teams this year. Michigan beat an overrated Iowa team. Iowa has not beaten a ranked team all year either. Weak conference! |

uhhh 6 teams? Georgia, Auburn, LSU...and its all down hill from there. Tennessee is debatable but there's not much else. Florida was horrid. if you think for a second that even with everyone healthy and a competent coach manning that ship they'd get far you're sorely mistaken, they were ridiculously one dimensional all year. the rest of the SEC is a bunch of .500 or worse teams.
Texas is a gimme game for Oklahoma because they a perennial chokers in a oklahoma game, texas tech is a phony to me ok state and a and m i'll give you but nebraska is horrid and hasn't been very strong for a few years Kstate is hit or miss and they usually aren't the caliber team to compete in the BCS. I never claimed the BigTen was the best conference this year, I would never claim that, that's absurd, but most seasons the BigTen can match any conference and proves it in the post season, I'm saying that next year or the year after, no question the big ten will be the best conference in college football. and by the way you've got your facts wrong. wisconsin beat opponents who were ranked at the time of the game on 3 different occasions. Iowa however, i'll give you they had a weak schedule.

The SEC is no doubt the best conference this year, but we're talking about the future. When BC moves to the ACC, I've got a feeling that they'll have the strongest conference. UNC is young, and will be much better. And they've got 3 teams that will be good every year. Overall, they have lots of defensive speed.
And if Ohio State gets put on probation, it may put a damper on the strength of the BigTen (eleven). |

well as far as probation I wouldn't trust a bunch of osu rejects and a disgruntled maurice clarett to bring a legitimate case to the public eye. the fact that ohio state has extended the invitation to the NCAA to perform an investigation says something to me.

umm ACC anyone?? The ACC conference is a death trap. Especially now with the additions of Miami and VT, you really never know what's going to happen. I think in the next 5 years you're going to see the ACC labeled as the top conference. The records of the teams are a little out of whack this year but that just shows you how tough the conference is.

I'm kind of amused by the notion that if a conference has one team that dominates the rest, it must be a weak conference. That's sort of like saying Carson Palmer only won the Heisman because no one in the PAC-10 was good enough to play pass defense.

no that reasoning only works if you move PAC-10 to BIG12 and change the implications from that year to ever and you've got the story of jason white.

The Big preTenders is far from the best conference in college football. Their teams are consistently overranked and it shows. (purdue, ohiostate, wisconsin...) Without a doubt the toughest conferences are the SEC, ACC, and Big12. Wait until 'Bama recovers from probation, and the ACC is completed with BC and Syacuse. I know they don't add that much to the conference, but then the ACC gets a championship game. Look at the amount of losses teams in the ACC have against in-conference foes and you'll see how tough this conference really is. And even though I'm not an Auburn fan, after putting the beat down on UGA it looks like they're the best team in the country this year and I can't wait untill they embaress USC in the Orange Bowl.

the problem with Miami is now they're in a tough conference and they're going to see what its like to be a team like Michigan where you can't walk through your conference because it is tough. Give it a few years in the ACC and they're going to hate it. They won't get their cupcake top 5 ranking every year because they'll have to actually play GOOD teams. Everyone rants and raves about Miami but now they're playing actually good teams and by george, they lost! twice! Its not real hard to run the table when you've got a premier school playing in a conference that is anything but. The bigeast is fine for some schools but not Miami, they recruit too much talent to play in such a shitty conference.

I'm still not getting the connection between the Big 10's "toughness" and the Michigan loss to Notre Dame. Hell, Tennessee lost to Notre Dame, too, but it wasn't Auburn's or Alabama's fault.
