Randy Moss Traded

To the Oakland Raiders for (LB) Napolean Harris, this years first round pick (7th overall), and a late round pick.

Randy Moss's agent said on Sirius NFL Radio that Moss is happy to be going to a team that has a shot to win the Super Bowl.

Personally, I think he LEFT the team that had the better shot of the two.

I think Moss now with Porter just getting locked down to a big contract, will be able to put up some nice numbers, but no QB with Culpeppers talent they will not put up the Moss/Carter style numbers.

I just don't see the benefit of this trade for Oakland. You've got a good receiver, but have not much else to help him out. If the quarterback is healthy, then you may see some offense. But giving up the pick and a good player? Don't get it.

Wow, and right after the new owner said he was NOT going to trade Moss... Moss (when he actually wants to play) can be the best reciever in the league, the downside is, obviously, his attitude. So, if the Raiders want to risk that much for a guy like Moss, more power to them... they're not so smart, but hey, they're not my team, so I don't care.

I'd say the Vikings did well in this trade, they got a good return for Moss, probably as good as they were going to be able to get anyway, and got rid of a guy who seems to be nothing but a problem. Of course, that's what people say/said about TO as well, so I guess it just depends on your tolerance for that sort of selfish type of player. I just know I wouldn't want him on my team (Bears) whether they need him or not.

It is amusing how he said he wants to go to a team that can win the Super Bowl... I don't see that happening anytime soon for Oakland, they're entirely too old, in my opinion. The defense is based around old guys, the QB (unless they address it) isn't that great... Should be interesting.

My thoughts almost exactly. As John Riggins and Adam Schine were saying on the NFL channel on Sirius, this trade is GREAT for Minnesota. They get a proven linebacker, the 7th overall pick and they have their pick which I believe is 23rd. They will most likely draft mostly defensive players and since they didn't pick up any salary on the trade they can go out and get a receiver via free agency.

Who knows... maybe this will have the same effect on Minn. that the Hershcel Walker trade had for Dallas. I am an Eagles fan though... I just hope Minn. doesn't get too good so that we might have a chance to go back to the SB and maybe.... win for a change.

This is FUCKING INSANE! After the talks yesterday I was almost certain this would go down soon...I didn't expect it today, but hell, this is huge man! And to top it off, we didn't have to give up Woodson or Buchanon, but rather Harris, which was merely mediocre last season. It sucks that we had to give up our 7th overall, but itís a much better deal than I anticipated.

We just signed Porter another 5 years as well. Porter, Moss and Curry? That is a fucking killer receiving corps. Now all we need to do is build the secondary and get a stud LB and we will be set...although Woodsons been tagged, it's a high possibility someone will pick him up...if they are willing to pay him top dollar and give up their first rounders...which is going to be risky considering Woodson hasn't played a full season in three years and isn't necessarily the shut down receiver he was in his first several seasons.

I've spoke to several Raider fans and a large majority of them were pissed off for the most part as they don't want Moss due to his sometimes cancerous attitude. I on the other hand am fucking ecstatic as I was hoping for this since the rumors started to fly, providing he doesn't cause trouble in the locker room, he is hands down the best wideout in the league.

Unfortunately I got to get to school and I can't read all the details right now, and I don't think it will be official until early March anyway, but I will check it out when I get back tonight, but as of now....this is fucking great news.

Wow, this is a total surprise. I was actually under the impression that the Raiders would take Mike Williams with their 7th pick (Al Davis seems to have a thing for Trojans), but being that I'm not a fan of the raiders at all (sorry rdr4evr, heh), I'm glad to see this deal go down. If Moss can grow up, he'll definitely be one of the 3 best (if not THE best) receivers in the league. As of now, he's just a ton of potential that's being held back by a completely shitty attitude.

I think the deal is good for the Vikings and the Raiders. There is a good chance that both receivers, Williams and Edwards, could be gone by that pick. Williams is a machine and Edwardsís stock has been rising. The Vikings have some good receivers with playmaking ability, and with most of their talent on the Offense, they havenít enjoyed success over the years. Minnesota should be able to add an immediate impact player on defense; hopefully they donít forfeit this pick too.

I think Collins is a capable quarterback, I like his long ball. I saw him light up the Denver secondary in snowy Mile High. Champ Bailey got burnt that game, same game that Porter made a sick one-handed TD grab.

My thoughts:

Moss now goes to a place where he'll fit in

The Raiders still need a QB unless Turner believes in killing Rdr4evr by keeping Collins.

The Vikings got the best deal they could, and now can probably draft Williams/Edwards at #7 to replace Moss and get secondary help at #23.

The Ravens no longer have this to worry about and can go on with the offseason

"He doesn't leave Minnesota with any grudges," DiTrapano said. "It just was frustrating for him to lose."
So in other words, 9142 yards (a record for any player over his first 7 years) just wasn't enough to keep Randy happy. Those stingy bastard quarterbacks just wouldn't throw to him.

Good luck, Randy. Joey Porter just signed a 5 year, $20M contract. You have to share catches with him. And Kerry Collins is NOT Daunte Culpepper.

Ok I am a hardcore Raiders fan and I will always be one. This trade will defintly benefit the Raiders more than Minn. The Raiders could take the tandem of Moss and Porter and throw in Curry is gonna be one hell of a WR core. Trust me there gonna be feared anywhere in the league. Also whats up with this Collins bashing. First off Collins is still good may not be the best as he once was but I rather have him than Bledsoe and I can tell you he can still throw the deep ball and he defintly can play. If not we have Touis. Trust me Touis can play ball. Fargas is gonna have one hell of a year with Moss and Porter on the outside. Trust me Speed on "BOTH" outsides will be HELL FOR ANY TEAM. "Z"

As a team, we can't hold shit together. Does Moss share some responsbility? Certainly. But does Tice, and the defensive line have more? I'm afraid so. Our offense won games, and our play calling and defense lost 'em.

I guess Oakland's next move could be to get Couch or Holcombe as a QB.......

Just win baby.....

Moss won't get anywhere next year and his attitude will be such that he'll make enemies of the Raider fans fast.

Moss would do so much better on a team where there is a true QB he is the #1 unquestioned WR. As it stands, the Raiders have 2 other pretty good WR he'll have to share time with and are in serious need of a strong QB. Not a good combo for someone of Moss's "ME" attitude.

Actually, Vikings got the short end of the stick. This was a steal for the Raiders man, we gave up a bum (Harris was another 1st round bust) and our 7th, which is no problem as we will get our 1st rounder back once we give up Woodson (possibly 20th or something), assuming anyone is willing to give up 10 million for him, if not, we will have no choice but to cut him and let him take what he can get. He simply is not worth it and we canít afford to pay him that kind of money without fucking the cap. Furthermore, aside from Woodson freeing up 10 million, Gannon will free up another 8 million, Parella 2 million, and Grant, I donít know how much he is supposed to get this season, but whatever it is, heís not worth it, the guy is trash (hell, I hope we cut Sapp too while were at it). More than likely, Moss will restructure his deal also, but even if he doesnít, he is to earn 7 million next season, which is still less than what Gannon was to make, so this is a win-win situation.

Thinking about Moss and Porter running the deep route with Curry in the slot give me chills man, not to mention Teyo. (wonder whoís going to wear 84 ). Unfortunately, I donít have too much faith in Scary Kerry, but he better get his shit together quick fast. Heís got the arm, but without accuracy, mobility, vision and intelligence, the guy is damn near worthless (Oh Gannon, WHY OH WHY must you have had a career ending injury??!...Fuck you Brooks!). Iím giving Collins one more shot, if he proves his worth, fine, but if he doesnít, Al and Norv better pull his ass out and put Tui in, otherwise itís another season down the crapper.

Now that we have one of the best receiving corps in the league, all we need to do is sign a RB and our offense will be unstoppable (how Davis will go about that is beyond me)Öeven with a sub par defense, which will hopefully be taken care of in the draft. If we can manage to get a 1st rounder for Woodson, hopefully we can get that pass rusher we so desperately need. If Davis manages to pull it off with a RB, OLB/ILB, and a DE somehow, we will go from 5-11 to SB run, count on it.

I guess living in the midwest and not seeing oakland play every week i've missed something because last time I checked Joey Porter was an okay wide receiver but definitely not a game changing one and ronald curry was never anything worth talking about.

I think Vikes got the deal with Moss out daunte had to find other ways to get points on the board and get more people involved now that he doesn't have make sure he gets the ball to moss X number of times a game to keep him happy that offense is going to be MORE dangerous because they're more versatile. They should pick up a wideout in either the draft or free agency to reaffirm the deep threat but I don't see that as incredibly hard. Their defense has been the let down all along with this team and now they have another solid performer on defense and the shot to take one of the many talented players on defense in this draft. I see the vikes getting the better deal out of this.

His name is Jerry Porter, not Joey, and if you watched the snowy Denver game and the way he burned Chump Bailey (greatest CB in the league HAHAHAH!) with 135 yards and 3 TD's, you would know why he's a game changing receiver. He also led the Raiders in receiving with a 1000 yard season, 9 TD's and a 16 yard average. As for Ronald Curry, not worth talking about? I think not. He was the number 2 receiving leader on the Raiders EVEN with missing the final four games with an injury. He had 679 yards with an average of 13.6 and 6 TD's.

Number one get off the QB bashing Collins is more than enough of a QB for the Raiders recieving core. He had a shaky beginning this season coming off the bench but he will be a different QB this season.

Porter is one hell of a WR I admit he hasnt done much with the Raiders but u got to see what they went through. He was starting to come to Pro Bowl status towards the end of the season last year. But he still has a away to go and with Moss in the line up he will take it to the other step. Porter was really the only WR the Raiders had last year besides Curry who did end up getting hurt.

I agree they have patched instead of rebuild. But I feel that the roster is getting better. Also they are freeing up cap room to help rebuild the team this off season. The Raiders are not done on the trading block or even got started in the off season. Woodson will be gone if not I hope so cause he hasnt done jack for the raiders the past three seasons.

Get off the trash talking on the Raiders when your team can win Super Bowls come talking but last time I heard the Vikes havent got close enough to even smell it. The Raiders who was called the oldest team in the NFL I think they made the Super Bowl that year and the previous years before that was winning their divison in "THE TOUGHEST DIVISON" in the NFL.

go ahead and take your shots, you're the one who said the raiders were going to make a superbowl run when they DON'T have a quality running back and who knows if they'll even sign one. On top of the fact that your TERRIBLE defense just got worse with the loss of a starter. If that's not homerism i apologize.

As a Raiders fan... I have mixed feelings. I really wanted Al to make a move for a great back. I don't think I was the only one that was tired of the lacklustre combo of Wheatley and Zereoue, and I've been the one praying since the rumour about 6 months back when Ricky Williams said he wanted to come back to play for the Raiders, that Al would get him, somehow. There are big RBs on the market, and I hope the Raiders get somebody. Hell, I'd even throw the third round pick for Travis Henry (worst case), or make a stab at Alexander (or James before the Colts tagged him).

Don't get me wrong, I love Moss coming to the Raiders. The main reason I like the Raiders is the ever plentiful amount of off the field stories that come from them (I'm thinking Barrett Robbins getting shot up, Janikowski punching in car windows and mirrors, Woodson getting arrested at a club, etc.) I even liked the Warren Sapp deal not so much for his play, as I know he's not half the player he was, but for his attitude.

Moss coming to Oakland just fits. I'll be watching Week 1 to see if Collins can actually throw the long ball to Moss, and I'll more than likely be the first one to launch the remote at the TV on the first sack or dropped pass or interception, get all mad, reach for another beer, and relax. Until the next Raiders mishap.

point is: i said you were a homer, you insulted my intelligence i think there's a BIT of a difference.

another point: your claim on napoleon harris being "garbage" is SUBJECTIVE. I'd hardly say a guy who made 71 tackles on a terrible team a year ago (not counting last season since the '06 hasn't started yet) is garbage. At the OLB spot...that's pretty good.

as for putting words in your mouth, i misread your post, it sounded less like "if they make these moves" and more like "they will make these moves" so I apologize.

I still don't think you made me look like a fool since you haven't really proven anything except i misread a post and you have an opinion about napoleon harris that not everyone shares. but hey, opinions are like armpits... yadda yadda.

EDIT: you also took the first shot claiming I "obviously couldn't read"

Harris had 1 decent season in his short career, and that is the season you mentioned, but this past season he only had a whopping 47 tackles, not God awful, but not a big loss either as I'm sure someone could easily fill his shoes. As for who took the first shot...I took "get real" as a shot, especially when you had "misread" my posts and put words in my mouth. That is besides the point now and there is really no reason to continue arguing like 10 year olds. If you think Harris is good, fine, I respect that, if you despise the Raiders, thatís your opinion too, but I was getting annoyed when you were making baseless statements without backing it up. Anyways, let's leave it at that. We will see what happens in the rest of the off-season.

I'm not going to get into details, but being a bears fan I watch and follow the NFC North very closely. I can honestly say, this trade was the best thing that could happen to the Vikings (bad news for my Bears but hey).

This will come back and bite Oakland in the ass. Mark my words.

Well I guess Moss will fit right in with the Raiders "bad boy" image. I still can't believe the Vikings actually traded him, good for them and good riddens.

win-win situation for the raiders... porter's locked up, get rid of harris, woodson's tagged with exception (meaning he can shop around, any team that bids has to give up 2 1st round picks for him), and we get moss...

regardless of how you feel about moss' on/off field incidents (which in my mind are overblown):
considering at the same point in their career, randy moss has more touchdowns than jerry rice did.
most catches in first 6 years in the league
most receiving yards in first 6 years in the league
only receiver to have 1,000+ yards receiving in his first 6 years in the league
nfc rookie of the year in his rookie season
all-pro (voted by sportswriters) on 3 occassions
pro bowl numerous times (voted by the fans)...

Good for the Raiders. Better them than the Ravens. I think it will be better for the Raiders and the Vikings. He ruined any chance of staying in Minnesota by screwing over his own teammates. Even Culpepper said he didn't care if Moss returned or not. Oddly enough, that same personality could help him in Oakland. They seem to thrive on that stuff there. On the other hand, if he doesn't get the ball enough, I guess he could create problems there also. We'll see.
