Masters Tournament

Admittedly, I don't watch golf on a regular basis, but I do watch as much of the four major championships s as I can, especially the Masters.

Tiger Woods is up by three strokes going into the final round. He has played exceptionally well the last two rounds. I am rooting for him to break his "O-for" streak in major championships, but I wish Phil, Els, or Vijay were in the final pairing with him.

You can see the live scores here http://www.masters.org/en_US/scores/...tml?promo=espn

Tiger's tee time is 3:00 PM

Unbelieveable. Tiger shoots 74 in the 1st round but that doesn't matter. 66 in the 2nd round and 65 in the 3rd will get it done. In all of his major victories, Tiger has at least been tied for the lead going into the final round.

It's unfortunate that we couldn't see the conclusion of the 3rd round this morning (I was up early) because it wasn't televised live.

I cant see anyone catching Tiger from this position... I saw the thrid round today (I dont know if it was picked up in the states, but the BBC had it... and he was just in the zone, he actually missed a few chances late in the round which if had of taken it would have been out of reach. But catching Tiger on a Sunday from 3 shots behind isnt gonna be easy for any player in the world

DiMarco's putting has kept him from catching woods. He's had plenty of chances to make up strokes, continues to struggle with the putter. This is probably the weakest Sunday of any major Tiger has led thus far. It's a good thing DiMarco can't get out of his own way on the greens. Or it's a 1 shot lead, maybe tied.

Tiger's chip shot for birdie on 16 has got to be one of the top 10 shots in golf history, maybe even top 5. Incredible shot. I think the collective force of everyone yelling at the TV for the ball to go in pushed the ball over the edge.

And DiMarco almost holing in on 18 to force Tiger to putt for a playoff... wow!

It looked like Tiger said something about it hitting the sprinkler head (an announcer thought that may have been the case too) after his chip shot on the 17th. That bounce, whether just weird or misdirected from the sprinkler head, led to his bogey. On the 18th, he just missed a tough put after putting himself in a tough position to save par. DiMarco was fortunate that his chip was only a hair off and still hit the hole, otherwise his ball would have sailed past the hole at least five more feet that in did.

Tiger's shot on the 16th was just fantastic and thrilling.

Forgot to add*
I thought Dick Enberg's closing segment on Jack Nicklaus was very well done and sentimental. To see recaps of Nicklaus crying, a tough view. Tiger's tribute to his father was equally special; I didn't know his father was ill.

No question that Tigers shot on 16 will go down as one of the top 10, possily 5 greatest shots of all time.

It's NO question it's the greatest shot in the history of the Masters.

Actually, I think the greatest shot in the history of the Masters was Gene Sarazen's double eagle 2 on the Par 5 15th in the final round back in the 30's. Obviously, there was no TV coverage of the shot unfortuanately.

But Tiger's chip is probably the 2nd greatest at Augusta and, I agree, maybe top 5 all-time. It's up there with Tom Watson's chip at 17 at Pebble Beach in the US Open, and Nicklaus hitting the flagstick at the same hole in 1972 (maybe '75).

Tiger got lucky this time. He had several lucky breaks, including the chip in at 16 (even he admits he was just trying to get it close so as to have a par tap in). Meanwhile DiMarco's chip, which should have gone in, didn't.

Tiger is a deserving champion, but he did get a couple of "member's bounces" along the way, otherwise we'd be seeing DiMarco in a green jacket.

The shot on 16 was simply amazing. The pause for dramatic effect before it dropped was fantastic. I bet Nike was simply loving it, having their image on the ball hang for 5 seconds before it dropped in.

What about hit chip shot on the 17th that appeared to hit a sprinkler head, and took a funny bounce. He bogeyed that hole, and DiMarco gained a stroke. Not a very lucky break. What about his first round highlights, a decent put rolled off the green and into the water, not very luck either. Through 72 holes of golf, players will get both lucky and unlucky.

About Dimarco's shot, Nantz (sp?) said something like "How did that not go in". On replay, you can see that the shot was going too fast and off center. Those two factors caused it to miss. His accuracy was almost there, and his speed was a little too fast.

The putts he putted off the green were bad putts, not bad luck. He simply gunned the ball on the fastest greens on tour down a bad ass slope.

Or on the very first hole of the tournament Tiger has a wedge into the 1st green (not much unlike his wedge on the final round) and it hit the flagstick, ricochets off to the side, then rolls into the bunker! Tiger was simply better than DiMarco, but just barely.

I'll give you that. You didn't comment on his bad bounce on the 17th, or DiMarco's fast speed and off-center shot that you categorized as "should have gone in". As I commented on before, through 72 holes of golf, you would be hard-pressed not to pick out shots that are both lucky and unlucky.

While I agree with DeMarco's guts and poise in an amazing pressure situation, for the life of me I can't understand how he could not learn from his own mistakes. On the final hole of regulation his approach shot didn't make it far enough up the slope to hold on, so he had to rely on a possible 'miracle ' chip. Then, on the first hole of OT, he HITS THE EXACT SAME SECOND SHOT!!!

WTF!!!

Probably over the course of the round there were other reasons he might of lost, but damn, that shot to me was just ridicules.
