Changes in rule?

I noticed couple of times when people are posting issues with things like software, motor, or hardware and others would post "Oh that brand sucks because so and so. Use this brand, it rocks!" kinda like the old argument "Ford sucks, chev rules" when someone is posting a problem regarding a particular Ford vehicle.

Perhaps the rules should change to reflect on that particular issue.

Glory's Sun 07-05-2005 06:11 AM

what would you suggest changing the rule too?

maleficent 07-05-2005 06:20 AM

I'm not sure a rule change is in order, but posters using common sense. Nothing would make me crazier as a poster, if I was asking a question about a microsoft product, and the response I get would be to install Open Office. It doesn't answer the question, it's not remotely helpful to me so what was the point?

Stay on topic when answering a question is the best rule and does it really need to be a rule, isn't it common sense?

its kinda like when somebody has a problem with IE and asks for help and all anybody tells them is....get rid of IE and use firefox....I havent had it happen to me but it burns me to NO end to see it happen to others.

Glory's Sun 07-05-2005 08:12 AM

sometimes the "quit using IE" type argument is useful, as in the person may not know about other alternatives. It just needs to be portrayed better and the poster also needs to post some sort of remedy or tip with the current issue. *yeah I know I'm guilty of the whole M$ sucks blah blah thing*

ShaniFaye 07-05-2005 08:16 AM

then it needs to be phrased.....to help with your IE problem do so and so....and so that you dont have the problem in the future you might investigate firefox

Glory's Sun 07-05-2005 10:12 AM

yeah..that's what I said :D

The only thing that really burns me is people saying M$ instead of MS.

But when it comes to "Dude, XXXXXXXXXXXXX sucks, get a XXXXXXXXXXXX" a lot of times they're right. unfortunately nobody did that to me when I was building a computer and I bought a MoBo that was from a really crappy company that was defective. Twice. In a row. It sucked. But now I'm a happy camper when after a month of fooling with it some one recommended a better brand and now I'm fat and happy.

SiN 07-07-2005 11:46 AM

heh, this thread is kinda funny.

I too get annoyed, not so much with FF, but with OO and Win/Linux ... but it's all the same, really.

Gatorade, glad to hear you are 'fat and happy'. finally, woot! :)

Well, mostly when Windows users use it. They're not making you use their product. And quite honestly I don't think it's that bad. Windows=Good (at least for me. You just have to know how to set up protection on your computer). Microsoft Office=Awesome. Minesweeper=Kickass. Yes, Microsoft has some problems with Internet Explorer, but they're not making you pay 200 dollars for it. It's free, and if that's not good, get Firefox (Yes, brilliant program. Always use it.)

But there's tons of other options out there for OS, most people do in fact know that despite the little faith we have in people.

But in any event, I like MS so it just kinda rubs on my nerves when people say M$. I mean, they're not all bad. They helped usher the world into the digital age with affordable easy to use computers.

Glory's Sun 07-07-2005 12:57 PM

I use windows every day, I also use other OS's. I use M$ b/c out of all the one's I use I despise windows the most and I can't stand their business practices. (yeah so what if Bill gives billions to charity, his company is still shady), however this is an entirely different thread so I will stop my hijacking :D

/end hijack

See my point? When someone has to make a point about a particular company or has an issue that needs solving with their product, another person comes along and start complaining about how crappy the product is, how bad the business practice is, etc etc

maleficent 07-07-2005 02:32 PM

/me laughs - and not at feelgood... :) at how this thread degenerated...

/me sees your point...

In this instance it was different because the covno was heading this way. It wasn't a matter of "hey I have a problem with IE." -- "Fuck IE get FF". It was a simple matter of what's wrong with M$ and then the reply was what that person felt was wrong with the phrase "M$" and I replied why I use "M$". It was completely different. Anyway like I said I'll stop with the hijack :)

Gatorade Frost 07-10-2005 08:22 PM

Err... Sorry about that. :(
