deleting posts...

I'd love to bring some friends to TFP, as i think they would love the philosophy and politic sections of the board. But i'm not quite eager to let them know which pictures in the titty board i liked. Not that i don't think the posters deserved thanks, but that i don't share my sexuality with that level of candor to most of my real life friends.

Point being, I've been unable to delete those posts, and i'd like to know how this can be done.

If it makes you feel any more secure, I don't read who posted what. Especially in the titty board posts. All of the "wows" and "gimme thats" kinda blend in together.

Posts cannot be deleted by the user, even if you are the one who posted it. This protects all users, as one cannot post things that are against the rules of TFP, only to delete them later so he/she does not get caught.

This also works against the user, as they cannot delete posts that they find their views changing on. If it helps, you always have the option to Edit your posts, so you can change what you have had to say at a later date.

Because of the large volume of users on the board it would be extremely difficult to delete posts, when requested, so that others would not be able to read it for personal reasons.

agreed.

If the concerns you, your best option is to edit your posts.

Still leaves my screen name there...which is pretty well the problem.

I understand the reasons, they just happen to be frustrating for me. Thank you though, for the prompt reply.

doesn't quite work that way...i have a feeling that they'd notice someone who sounds an awful lot like me using a different screen name.

PS to MeanSplean. The stated rationale is that people might post bad content and delete their posts to avoid being detected. Yet, they can still change that entire content to again, avoid detection. If users can edit, there really isn't a super strong case for not enabling the delete function. Just a thought...

This is called "Taking your toys and going home" and I'll tell you now that I've banned people in the past for it. Editing out one or two of your responses to a few threads is not bad, but you gotta draw the line somewhere.

I'd simply encourage you to not give a fuck what your friends think. If they enjoy the site, then chances are, they wont pass judgement. If you feel they will, maybe it's not such a good idea to refer them to a site that contains a whole RANGE of topics that could possibly turn them off.
