Pre-made keystone jacks
I know I have seen somewhere that someone manufactured and sold premade RJ45 wall jacks. You didn't have to make the cable, and all you did to make the connection was plug in a cable to a female receptacle in the back of the jack, and then it provided you with a female receptacle on the front/outside of it. I can't find 'em...does anyone here know where I can find one of these? Thanks.

Wall jacks are simple to wire. Much simpler than attaching male cable ends where the connections are closely spaced and have to be prepped for one big crimp.
Connections are splayed out across a larger area. Here's a pic: http://www.aptcommunications.com/images/jackAB.jpg Set a wire and use the little punchdown knife to press it in. It goes quickly. |
Hmmm. Maybe it's easier than I thought. Still curious about what I asked about though. I only need a couple, so maybe wiring them up won't be a big deal.
Thanks for that pic. |
Turned out I found some. This is what I'd been looking for. They're only $1 more than "normal" jacks, plus, I don't have to wire them up. Works by me!

Home Depot / Lowes should have it, along with real electrical/telephone supply stores like... Greybar (if I recall correctly)
Home Depot / Lowes will make you vastly overpay for them, but if you are getting under a dozen, it's probably worth it to pay the extra few dollars over finding a real supply store and seeing if they will sell to you. |
