MDF and MDS files

how do you open/install mdf and mds files. what program do you recommend to open these files? can you take me step by step through this process???

They're CD images (exact copies of the CD) in binary format. You need a virtual CD drive like Alchohol 120% or Daemon Tools. Or, you can use a burning program like Nero to burn the image directly to a CD and use like you would any other.

Daemon is free, so I'd go about searching for it.

Lastest version of UltraISO will open, mount, burn from these files. Alchohol 120% is a little bloated to me.

Just use magiciso to open/extract .mds/mdf files. their freeware magicdisc can mount .mds as virtual cd.

What if the file is bigger than a CD? As in approximately 2 Gigs for the .MDF file????

The it is a DVD image. It goes on a DVD, though not the full size of a DVD.

You can use a "virtual cdrom" utility. Here's a free one for XP:
