I purchased a used Mac G4 powerbook for my fiance some time ago. It came already loaded with Adobe Acrobate and Microsoft Office. The disc's for both where provided to me deeply scratched.

Now we are upgrading the computer from OS X 10.2 to 10.4 and I am seeking ways to back-up and restore these programs after an erase and install as I have no means of re-installing office or acrobate, and no product literature to get the companies to send me new discs.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Why not just do an archive and install instead of erasing everything? Then you won't have to reinstall.

Otherwise just copy the applications onto another disk (and any relevant folders in ~/Library/Application Support) and copy them back after your reformatting etc.

Why do you feel the need to erase things just to upgrade the OS, out of curiosity?

Also, do you have the registration information that came with, because even if you were able to reinstall, you'd have to have that info to fully reinstall things.

Otherwise, just use woodhead's advice, and copy the files to a CD.
