IE 7
so i came into work this morning and lo and behold MacroHard installed IE 7 on my machine while i was still looking at the back of my eyelids...
tried to run it and it wouldn't load to my home page... in my e-mail any link wouldn't load... went to add/remove and found a "fix" for it but not IE 7... went to my IE 6 and that worked but not as a default... found the IE 7 folder and there wasn't an uninstall folder (imagine that)... there are instructions at MacroHard's site to download it... it's now gone, but let me tell you, after 3 hours of dorking around i would warn you that IE 7, (IMO), FUCKING SUX!!! |
I've been "using" the beta of IE7 for 6 months now. It seems to be OK for me. There are a few differences between the beta and the release though.
However, you are correct that it sucks compared to other browsers. |
Three computers came into my husband's work today with the same problem- they'd load up IE7, the screen would then go blank and the computer would crash.
I think they were a bit premature in releasing it, ya think? |
My SO does testing for various companies, from network equipment to software. Recently, his group was testing IE 7.
Their conclusion? Send Microsoft a note asking if they've heard of Firefox. |
I'm glad I'm not the only one that's of the opinion that IE7 blows. I loaded onto one of our test PC's here in the office - it didn't make it to the end of the day.

Strange. I've been using it for a few days with no problem. I almost like it as much as Firefox and it has been a big improvement over IE6 IMHO.

That's crazy talk....crazy... almost as much as Firefox... :) What am I saying? I totally agree. Much, much better than IE6. We've got it installed on all the public access and all staff PCs and no problems as of yet... In fact, the staff likes it a lot. |
It causes problems with my companies internal management sites. Had to set a blocker on PCs at work so it doesn't prompt people to install during auto updates.
I have not bothered installing it at home. Firefox works fine for me, might give it a try since I'm planning to reinstall the OS soon anyway. |
Bottom Line... Any version/make/model of IE blows. No matter how you look at it.

And if I could right click a link in my favorites list and open it in a new tab, I'd like it as much as Firefox. |

I have IE7 and I hate it. I don't hate it for any of the reasons that have been mentioned in this thread though. I loved IE6. I like IE6 more than Firefox. IE6 wasn't a perfect browser, but if you had anti-adware/spyware knowledge, it was pretty hard to screw it up. Most of all, you could get it cleaner than Firefox, and from my experiences, it loaded webpages faster than Firefox. So I install IE7 expecting an IE6 with better features. Wrong. The whole damn interface that I've been using for years is gone. Now it's a direct Firefox ripoff that lost a good bit of its functionality without having to go into menus. What's worse, you can't customize it or uninstall it or roll back to 6. :( The worst of the worst is how there's a 500 millisecond delay before it loads the default page when you open it, and it lags my system for almost a full second everytime I close it. Don't install this crap.

I have been running IE7 for about 2 weeks and have had no problems. Oddly enough I went with IE7 to try and help a cursor freezing issue and so far has worked.

Internet explorer makes baby jesus cry. Microsoft also have it as a critical windows update, so the company i work for had to do a mad scramble on all the WUS servers to stop our clients getting owned by it.
Seriously, it's like a freakin' virus. Long live firefox. |
I went ahead and made IE my default browser again. I've been using it so much I was not liking links in e-mails opening in Firefox any more. If Micro$haft fixes the favorites link thingy I don't like and make the spell check as good as Firefox 2.0's they may have something.

Grancey installed IE7 on the home computer yesterday and immediately started hating it. I installed it at work today just so that we'd have the same thing and I wouldn't have to learn two different browsers.
The thing I hate the most is that I'm a menu guy all the way, and all of my menus are gone. I NEED *Edit*Select All*Edit*Copy*Edit*Paste* really, really, REALLY bad!!!! I feel lost without them. Also, Grancey is a Drop-Down History kind of girl and she never uses the Favorites, which is not an option for her now. Of course, all of these options are probably in there somewhere, but we'll die before we find them. We agree that it sucks. The interface looks to me like one of those old Broderbund Kid Software Programs (Learn to Count Like Mr. Cow), so I guess they've marketed it toward under-30 idiots. Can we get the grown-up version now, please? |

Or just right click the toolbar. Or command bar as it is called these days.

It's nothing new when product management thinks their ugly duckling is the most beautiful baby in the world, but you'd think by now MS would know better than to assume "new and important for project bonuses" equates to Critical Update status. Christ, the number of calls I've had on this since they pushed it out. They do themselves a disservice. I see the same reactions to the new Office UI. They'd do better with a slow burn than to run backwards like this.

sorry to bring back up an old post, but incase if you havn't removed it yet or if anyone else wants to remove it, it's actually really easy to roll back to IE6, you just go to "add/remove programs" in control panel... and at the bottom of the list you'll find "Windows Internet Explorer 7!! if you downloaded a earlier version, you may have to click the "show update" box on the top to view it on the list, but it will remove, I've done it. IE6 will return to its previous state. |
I have been using IE7 for several weeks without a problem. I will have to investigate Firefox however.
