CD-R drive not opening
Hey, the title is pretty self explanatory. My cd-r drive is not opening. I push the button and it not responding, no light or anything. I called Gateway, yes i know i was desperate, and they said it was a driver problem. So here I am. I dont think he knew what the hell he was talking about so Im here to find out. Is there anyway to diagnose the problem. I heard it also might be power connection problem or a motor problem with the drive. Also there is no hole to put a paperclip in so that idea is out the window. Thanks for any help.
PS. Im a poor college student so if I could avoid buying a new drive that would be great. Take care. |

When you boot up your computer, can you get in the BIOS? in there, you should see a list of drives (hard drive and cd/dvd/a. if your cd-r drive is in the list, then it's a problem in windows i would think. if it's not there, then you have a problem. open the computer (side panels) and check if the power cables and flat-gray cables(IDE) are correctly plugged in. also, check what your power supply is. 250? 300? 350? it's possible you're not getting enough power to the drive.
If you have a 2nd computer that's working, i suggest taking the defective drive and trying it in the 2nd computer to test it out. that way you'll be sure. good luck with your problem!

while inside of bios, try the button, if it still doesn't work, its not a driver problem.
