ASP.NET and Visual Studio 2005 - Can't edit aspx files.

I'm having this bizarre issue with Visual Studio 2005 when publishing a web project - it pre-compiles the aspx pages, which makes it impossible to update the aspx file directly.

It's beyond me why they'd even make this the default method, but we have web projects where individual pages can be customized depending on certain situations. It's very counter-productive what they did here.

When you edit the aspx file, you see:

"This is a marker file generated by the precompilation tool, and should not be deleted!"

So.. is there any way to go back to normal compiling and publishing?

I'm seriously baffled as to why they think this is a good idea. I read a few whitepages on MSDN how if you wanted to change a simple setting, say add a class to a div, or random HTML fixes, you would have to recompile and reupload the *entire* site, and honestly... that makes no sense whatsoever.
