I'm starting a website... need help...
Okay, so here's what's happening: I needed to create a website to help promote my film (which is in production), while also being able to talk about news and show off the work of friends and such. I was looking through possible domain names and couldn't decide on anything good, and finally today realized what to do, so I have a domain name, now all I have to do is find the right host. This has proven difficult. At first I tried godaddy.com, but reviews for the site were mixed, so I nixed that one. Now, I'm on a quest, going through a heaping load of shitty hosts and I might have found one, but I want to make sure.
So, does anyone know if webhostingpad.com is a reliable host, or does anyone know of a host with enough clout to win me over? I'm very uptight about spending money, so I want to make sure I'm getting the most bang for my buck. And just for the sake of those who are curious, the site I'm planning on creating centers around no-budget film and other indie art forms, so it will have a design similar to Joblo.com, with some more traditional style when it comes to other parts of the site, such as the pages for my filmmaking and writing, as well as a possible forum and, in the future, a store, though I know what to use for those two.

I have two hosts each are for very different things.
apthost.com for a post production review and approval tool. it allows people to share video privately and in high quality. I just got a reseller deal with them so I will be re-selling space and FTP servers to production groups. dreamhost.com I use for a geneology forum and blog. Dreamhost has alot of bandwidth and space for little money. dreamhost is much more professional than apthost, but apthost already has these ffmpeg hosting package so there's less for me to configure on the backend for movie playback and conversion.

I work for an ISP/Webhost, I wish I could sell you my employer's generosity (I get unlimited hosting, domain names, space, and throughput) but I think i'd get in trouble if i tried loading up people on my account and accepting paypal donations in return
That said, dreamhost is quite fair from what I've seen. |

godaddy has excellent pricing, especially in combination with their coupons or special offers - but their upload and download speeds are downright terrible. It's perfectly fine for viewing web pages and short videos, but forget massive uploads or anything like that. my upload speed for FTPing files is capped around 30 kb/sec. That is fucking terrible. I nearly closed my account, but ended up keeping in just to host smaller files.

From all that I've seen (oy, what a truckload), I think I'm going to go with dreamhost after I get a new job, as I'm currently down to $800 in my bank account, and don't feel like paying just yet, as I'd like to pay as far ahead as possible. Also, it has a free direct installation of Wordpress, which is fantastic since I can't install it worth crap. Thanks for pointing me in that direction.
For right now, I just went ahead and created a Wordpress account to get the blood flowing. At some point I'm going to start posting at sufferforyourart.wordpress.com.
