PC won't restart when warm

I've got a PC that runs just fine, but if it crashes I have to power down and wait like 20 min. for it to cool before it will start up again.

More detail...
When I power it up hot, the initial beep that has signals BIOS loading (or whatever) doesn't sound. The disk drive spins up, but nothing else happens.
I've checked the BIOS settings for some kind of temperature gauge, but couldn't find anything. It was built by Micron about 2 years ago?

maybe the proc is too hot and it doesnt load up (intel's tend to do that).

maybe you have to wait till the hd quits turning

Being that i'm a conservative libertarion according to political compass.com I have to argue with The_Dude ...joking aside

Your problem is pretty unique, I haven't heard it in a while. I think though the issue is probably in your power supply shorting out.

Next time it happens, physically unplug the power cord wait about 30 seconds and plug it in and try it on.

It could be one of the coils in the power supply is dying.

This happened to me with an old machine. I had to disconnect the power supply for a minute or so.

If I looked inside the case, there was a little light that stayed on for a while. Once it clicked off, the machine could be restarted.

This is about as technical as I get. Sorry

does sound like a dying PSU, is the initial crash related ? , crashes from PSU problems tend to not make any sense, and affect any programs at any times for no apparent reason.

sounds JUST like the retardedness we were dealiing with, with a dying power supply. you can get a new PS for 10 bucks off of pricewatch.com, if you're not worried about brand name (and so long as it lasts a year, replacing it once a year for 10 bucks is STILL cheaper then paying 80 for a "name brand" one that you'll use for 5 before hardware out stripps it). That solved all our problems. also, switching the little switch in the back if your PS has one, off and on tended to have interesting results w/ us...

I'm going to jump on the PSU bandwagon, because it does sound like that it's not comfy with the heat. If the PSU actually 'overheated', it would fail and could damage the mobo. Thus, it might be a good time to invest in a new PSU, since replacing a mobo is far more expensive. Maybe consider this an omen from the Gods.

Power supply. I should have thought of that. I'll pick up a new one at a local shop and I bet the problem will be solved.

Thanks! Sometimes it just takes a fresh perspective.
