Firefox help needed ASAP

*sigh*

I downloaded an upgrade to my current Firefox theme. Now my FF is fucked. See below:

http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/4287/image1ju.png

I already tried uninstalling > reinstalling. Same crap. Help!

I'm fairly tech savvy with some things, but every so often it's the most simplest of tasks when I become a ditz. I need my FF!!! IE bites!!!

edit - if u help I'll give u a dollar :o

Uninstall. Then go here ...

C:\Documents and Settings\wooÐs\Application Data\Mozilla

and delete The folder "Firefox".

Then show me that sadist pic you got on your desktop.

flat5 01-22-2010 04:24 AM

Here is what I'd do.

Find where your firefox data is stored. Perhaps:

C:\Documents and Settings\your name.ComputerName\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox

Copy "bookmarks.html" to the desktop or somewhere.

Delete or zip up the above folder.

Reinstall Firefox.
Update the new "Favorites" by importing your old "bookmarks.html".

Thought I had success but no.

I'm still on XP folks. Please bear with me. Which of the following??

I'm willing to pm my number to someone in order to get this fixed. It's THAT important lol.

Redlemon 01-22-2010 07:50 AM

Hit me. I'm here and have time to talk on the phone.

Read this slowly so my condensending voice can carry over the post ... :D

Hit the windows logo Key and the "L" key to take you to your "Log In" screen. What name displays there? Under which user name do you use at all times to log into your windows account? It's most probably not the "Administrator" account because that doesn't usually show.

So, this address:
C:\Documents and Settings\wooÐs\Application Data\Mozilla

Where it says "wooÐs"is the username you want to be in.

After uninstalling Firefox, click on "Application Data>Mozilla" Then either delete the "Firefox" folder entirely or you can do as flat5 says if you have a lot of bookmarks and favourites saved up.

If this doesn't work we might have to redo your registry.

How's about that sadist photo then????

wooÐs 01-22-2010 07:59 AM

agh. Patience is not in my vocabulary lol. I tossed all my bookmarks, passwords, etc. and started fresh. Change is good. Thanks anyways guys. :)

edit - aww wow, thanks Red. Sorry - got impatient lol.

Xerxys - it's nothing. I think I saved it from a post here on the board:

http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/3194/sadist.gif

But I'll work on something special for you since you helped lol.

If you haven't emptied the trash yet, I can let you know what's OK to move back into your profile. Or, if you are enjoying the squeaky-clean feeling, that's OK too.

(Firefox released version 3.6 yesterday, did you update yet?)

Martian 01-22-2010 09:03 AM

Nice try, Xerxys, but you need about 10 years more practice before you can pass as a BOFH.

Moar Bitter!

Also, I believe XP defaults to the admin account when in 'single user mode.' I may be mistaken on that, though.

Xerxys 01-22-2010 09:54 AM

Whats BOFH?

After reading this thread, I'm afraid to!

Don't be frightened. Woods merely installed a bad theme, and we could have easily undone the damage if she'd waited 10 more minutes. That has nothing to do with the update.

Cynthetiq 01-22-2010 02:25 PM

glad that you're back up and running.

Thanks! *whew*

Does hitting alt+t bring up the tools menu? If so you can do that and go to addons and remove the theme.

MexicanOnABike 01-22-2010 04:33 PM

Use Chrome :)

I went Chrome about two weeks ago. But I still remember enough Firefox to help.

I think I'm ok with cleanliness lol. I'm pretty bad with bookmarking anything that's remotely interesting. So basically, I bookmark crap that I never go back to. Starting fresh may be a good thing.

:(

I'm not a very patient person. But I appreciate everyone's help. :o

All I remember from FF is that is was better than IE. Then Chrome came out. :) Chrome is so much faster than FF. Extensions or addons do not slow down chrome. But it did to FF. i will never look back.

Poppinjay 01-23-2010 09:18 AM

I really like Safari. At least after I figured out how to change the home page away from Apple.

Maybe it's time I check this out. Was waiting for a bug-less version. Sounds like one's available.
