Sound Blaster Live! 5.1

Can anyone suggest some alternate 3rd party drivers for the SBLive 5.1 series cards? The last official driver update for WinME was in 2000, and the lack of support is starting to effect my gaming. I saw something about a KXproject that created some, but I was unsure about how well those drivers would work because they are geared towards musicians and not gamers. Any help you guys could throw my way would be greatly appreciated.

I tell ya that card is becomming outdated. I would suggest just using the normal drivers and when you get some spare cash, upgrade to a Audigy 2 or some other big time gaming card. The fact is that the SB live only supports EAX 1.0 I believe and the Audigy 2 has MANY other ones including A3D anyway, I had to buy a Gametheatre XP after my SBlive got too old.

I had many problems with that card under 98SE2, Win2K and XP. I honestly think you may be better off switching it out. For me the sound was laggy in any game with good sound, like Medal of Honor or Castle Wolfenstein.

a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz can be had for quite cheap, and is much better than the SB Live...

i have a Asus A7N motherboard
the built in 6 channel audio is actually good
heck, i liked it better than my Live! 5.1
so i guess your better off with a newer card rather than just trying to patch it up

thansk for the info guys, I was afraid that it was time for a new sound card, and it looks like it is. Unfortunately, it is also time for a new video card, so guess I better pick up some overtime

I will also check out that soft mod, hopefully it will hold me over until i get a new card.

I've had enough grief from Creative products that I just don't buy from them anymore. (And I used to work tech support for them)

Driver support for Creative's sound cards sucks. Go buy yourself one of Hercules' higher end sound cards. They're pretty good and aren't overprices like Creative's shit.

If you are looking for 3rd party, drivers try: http://kxproject.spb.ru/ I've used them on an old sblive, no problems whatsoever except they don't support directsound3d.

I pretty much gave up on my Sb Live 5.1 and got a Santa Cruz a month ago. The occasional clipping and crackling noises I got in some more demanding games (Il-2:FB for one) drove me nuts. After a long history of el-cheapo SB Live cards, I did the switch. There was also the issue of losing my driver disk, and oddly when they finally put the non-XP drivers they stopped supporting, it kept saying I didn't have a Sb Live 5.1. I got older VXD drivers somewhere else, but it was just one more reason for me to move on.

I had a SoundBlaster Live Platinum.

I spoke many curse words.

Then I just fucking bought a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.

No more curse words.
