My new tower idea...

Hey .. need to know what metal most towers are made outta..

gonna make a gundam tower.. will have to space stuff a bit.. and use longer wires.. but im bored and got tools now to goof around with something..

was thinking of having the chest open on hinges from center to sides.. then the cdrom tray opens.. have the eyes.. left one for power.. right one for the hd thinking light.

ill use the feet and wings on the back for base support..

need the metal though.

I know my friend has one made of pure steel (weighs 26 pounds) and I think aluminum is used sometimes as well, but I'm not positive about that.

They're all aluminum. Light, and strong enough for the job. Not too expensive. If anyone is throwing out a computer (you could check the scrap metal section of the town dump) you could yoink them and cannibalize them for parts.

Aliminum is the way to go. Steel is heavy as hell and holds more heat than an aluminum case.

I love my Lian-Li case.

a lot of cases are steel... more expensive cases are more often to be aluminum...for this project you may want to go with aluminum cuz its light... maybe go with buying sheets from a hardware store... and not so much canabalizing parts...

I'm modding my bitch right now, lights, lasers, glowing IDE's, the works, I prefer modding a case to building one, less frustrating and more fun.

What's the appeal in case modding, are there that many compu-geeks out there without something better to do with their time and money.

Guys just have to mod their shit and make it different or better than anyone else. Who wants to settle for normal anyway?

Case modding is a phase I believe. I went through that phase big time. My first case was blue all over, with silver plating on the front. I custom modded a very nice-looking window on the side, and installed a red cathode inside. I even decked it out with those round ribbon cables. Then came the massive amount of fans.

I started hating it after a while, and now my new PC is a Beige case. That's it, beige. I went from this (except mine had a different window, and was blue, but same except for that)

to this:

Maybe it's just me. My brother had that first one I posted (different window and more fans) and recently upgraded to this:

I just got tired of looks and went all-out performance. I guess that's how I ended up with a FX 5900 Ultra.

actually i hate being in the "normal" crowd.. if you can do it.. why not? Why just have the same old thing sitting around day after day.. why not build some thing.. so when your friends and such come over they go "holy crap dude!! that is kick ass"

Like he said - we need to be different. I got the case Lasereth had - the first picture - and its suits me well - dont think ill change for a while - im sorta broke - but if you were going to go with anything - i would suggest aluminum or an Alloy of aluminum and steel for strength - otherwise go with whatever u got!
