Monitor/Graphics Card Problems

Some windows seem to be leaving behind a few pixels, and after a little while of using the computer, while (for example) opening folders within explorer, after each double click the computer seems to freeze, then in about 10 seconds the screen goes black, and then the folder contents show. Rinse and Repeat. So it appears to me to be a refresh issue.

The graphics card is about a month old, and the monitor is about 4 or 5 years old.

I have not yet hooked the pc up to another monitor to test it that way, but intend to do so as soon as i get home, just throwing up this post to see if anyone has any insight as to what is going on.

Sounds like a vidcard problem...overclocking at all? Often that will cause artifacts to remain behind...

Is it possible that the default refresh rate for the card is too high for the monitor? It sounds like the card is not quite meshing with the older monitor, so you might need to turn down "some features" - sorry I can't say what, other than refresh rate - to get them to synch better.

Other than that, just check to make sure you have the latest drivers and also check the card manufacturer's website for either drivers OR patches, and if you're running XP, maybe also check M$ update for windows updates (not critical updates) - I remember M$ had an update for NVidia that I used on my PC.

I have not overclocked it at all. Just used it right out of the box.

It worked fine for a month, and I just hooked it up to my newer monitor, and it is doing the same thing. I also used the DVI and VGA port, both doing the same thing. So I am almost convinced it is the card itself.

I also tried the newest drivers (I was using the latest certified drivers) and then the certified version before the one I was currently using.

My system is fully upto date with windows update, and I had a refresh rate fix. I also tried different refresh rates, all that did was make it take longer to start acting up.

I don't know, guess my next step is trying to contact asus.
